You actually hit directly on the reason for the decrease in the price of lumber.

Now, all we need to do is quit eating, driving, and using utilities and we’ll be set in a few years!

It is a post about a single commodity which is nice to see if you are the type that builds things even in a DIY capacity. Can you link to a single time you went into one of the myriad of posts about lumber skyrocketing complaining that it was cherry-picking?

that’d be fair, if we ignored the rest of the OP’s posts

Most don't understand what's about to happen here. There is going to be a major crash very soon and nothing is going to stop it, this is an indicator of it.

The cost to get timber to the mill, make into lumber, ship it to lumber yards and selling it to consumers have not gone down, but the demand is falling off a cliff. Something has to give.

Construction grade lumber down?

3/4" maple plywood is still
$90/sheet, that's for the shitty HD/Lowes quality.

I want/need to make a run to a decent lumberyard to pickup some nice boards to turn into sawdust for a couple projects, that's going leave a mark.

Also…it’s down now because of huge drop in demand driven by single family decline in Sept.

Lumber buying is about as bad as it has been. Hard to sell trees right now means mills aren’t buying.

They will slow production and certain products will begin to slowly increase. Actually I see it going down some more then back up in a few months.

The decrease in price will never make it to Home Depot/Lowes. They’ll just make better margins. Lumber and Copper are both good leading indicators of recessions. We’ll see though

Would you prefer to see lumber prices continue to rise?

Probably low demand to build with interest rates as high as they are. People aren't buying homes.

This.

Not at fricking all a reason to celebrate.

How much is a 3/4 inch sheet of plywood?

I paid about 35 a sheet the other day for 3/4 CDX. About where it was a few years ago. 2Xs are about where they were.

I hope this is a sign that building will drop in prices a chunk and I will start pushing forward on it.

Given that interest rates have almost tripled from pre-pandemic levels and housing prices have not started coming down, why should I give a shite about the price of lumber?

This. If you tried to build a house today you’d still be paying inflated prices to a contractor.

Not lower at Home Depot.

2x4x8 = $3.68

In 2019 I was paying $2.12.

Great news OP! Perhaps now you can afford building temp housing structures for the homeles and illegals in your neighborhood. Awesome to hear.
