Why? The vaccinated people carry it also.

What we don't know is the chance of catching and spreading for vaccinated versus unvaccinated. There is early data to suggest it is lower for vaccinated (thinking of the Israeli data), and there is some data to suggest they have the same chance of spreading (the Massachusetts data).

So...it would be better to test everyone then, right? Better safe than sorry...if it saves one life?

Again, my point stands. Unless you are prepared to do something that can be argued will actually accomplish a thing, doing "something" so that it does not look like you're doing "nothing" is not automatically a better option.

And as many have said, what happens this Fall on gamedays? Or better yet, what happens literally every day as LSU students travel outside of the bubble that is campus? Testing once a month is essentially useless in an open situation.

What about those who have had COVID? They are more protected from reinfection from other variants and for longer than those vaccinated. Why should they be subjected to either?

So vaccinated people can still get Covid, spread it among people, and go to the hospital for it, yet they only want to test the unvaccinated? Sound decision making there.

Keep digging bigger holes there, LSU.

At least there is an option here (however crappy). Other universities offer no such options despite (some) being public institutions supported by taxpayer funds.

Yes it does seem reasonable... if you ignore the science.

Why must you be repeatedly tested when vaccinated people are not even if you have already had it? The are carving out a special class that excludes people that have everything that should be needed to join the class.

So the discussion at this point should change from requirements to attend LSU and focus on why they would do this when they know it is unscientific, ridiculous and discriminatory to those already carrying the antibodies.

They are evil, it is not stupidity it is evil.

It is very reasonable. If by some miracle the student population was vaccinated at 90% (less than the football team) then maybe the mask mandates could go away.

I write to ensure you are informed—as soon as possible—of important information related to your attendance in class at the Law Center next week. Please read this message carefully and be attentive to any additional emails to come in the next few days.

LSU just released its updated policies for the Fall 2021 semester and the 2021-22 academic year. You either have, or will soon have, in your inbox an email from President Tate. It contains basic information plus a link to a bit more detail. The piece requiring immediate emphasis is this:

To begin classes—including Trial Advocacy—our students, including you, will need to provide either (a) proof of full COVID vaccination, or (b) a negative COVID-19 test taken within 5 days prior to arrival on campus. (A third option is proof of a very recent diagnosis of and recovery from COVID.)

I do not yet have the University’s final word on the mechanism by which you will provide this information to us. I’m working on that right now; we will provide that information ASAP. But because you may not carry your vaccination card with you every day and may need to locate it, or you may need to get a COVID test in the next day or two to have results back in a timely fashion—we wanted to emphasize this information as soon as we heard it. (Students not yet fully vaccinated will need proof of the negative (or positive) test to begin classes, but they may also wish to go ahead with completing full vaccination, as regular COVID testing will be required in order to remain in on-campus courses.)

The Louisiana Department of Health directory of testing sites is here and vaccine locations is here. Some COVID data is found here. The LDH has a FAQ page on COVID, which includes some additional information.

If you are in Baton Rouge and would like either a free COVID test or a COVID vaccination, just go to the Union (days/times in the links) and walk into the lobby area for the Union Theater (west end of Union, bottom floor). You will find members of the National Guard pleasantly and helpfully waiting to assist you with either one. COVID testing by the Guard is free; it does take at least 24 hours to get the result; it can take 48+ hours in crunch times.

All of us at the Law Center and your volunteer trial advocacy faculty look forward to welcoming you next week. It will be—as usual—a great experience!

Just received this email from LSU. Seems like nobody knows what is going on yet at any level.

Ok... If you think that's reasonable, then they should do monthly drug tests on all students, not just athletes, and they should require a police search of your house for any drugs, stolen items or whatever LSU thinks is bad. And since we're allowing institutions to create law, who knows what other arbitrary rules they'll come up with.

And make no mistake about it, this rule IS arbitrary. They surely aren't following science to back up any possible reason to have such a rule. After everything that has happened in the last year and a half, you still don't understand the concept of opening Pandora's box?
