I'm kind of blown away the Ivy League didn't let women in until the 60's. I think UVA might have actually been the same way and maybe even until the 70s.

We have known for a long while now that females begin to outperform males in education beginning in middle school. Why hasn’t this been a focal area for improvement?

Well, because it was their GOAL.
They WANT boys to perform worse. It's their demented way of gaining gender vengeance

Check out The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men by Christine Hoff Sommers. While on the opposite side of the political spectrum, Camille Paglia agrees with her. LINK

Make no mistake. Everything happening in K-12 regarding boy under performance is by design. They barely even make a secret about it.
That said, there is one non-nefarious reason boys have challenges also. My son just said it himself this year after his first day.
"Dad, my Science teacher is a man. I've never had a boy teacher". He's in the SEVENTH grade!

We laughed in college about them earning their “MRS” degree
They were doing that at Centenary when I attended. The serious man chasers all majored in Elementary Education. That was the minimum course workload while you were dating.
You can get a degree in Elem. Ed at a much cheaper college. But their parents knew that Centenary was full of rich boys. The girls didn't mess with poor kids on scholarship like me.

I'm not going to use simple college attendance or number of degrees to determine "outperformance".
That's like using percentage of victories to determine if the 6th place SEC team can beat the Louisiana HS State champs in football.
QUALITY of degree and Major matter a LOT. I'm sorry. A person with an undergrad in an Engineering discipline can't be said to have been "outperformed" by some weirdo with a Masters in Gender Studies.

What a shame this is the president of a university.

Wait. Is she admitting there are only two genders?

And the fact that they would rather be working than being a stay at home mom. A good friend, female with a degree, of ours works to help pay for daycare for her two kids. You know how much she makes - just enough to pay the daycare bill. I don't get it.

I understand your point and often, you are correct.
I will say that there is a circumstance where this might make sense.
If you're a woman who plans to return to work when your children are school age, you might choose to work shorter hours in a field at least somewhat related to your intended field so that you don't have a 5-8 year hole in your resume. Even if there's no real financial benefit DURING that time period.

I felt the same way.

If I was in charge of a school I would seperate classes by sex. Let them socialize in between classes/lunch/etc

Thinking about it, I only had female teachers in elementary too. Dont recall any male teachers at the school. But our Principal was not messing around though. He had his paddle hanging in his office just right, where you can see it whenever you walked by the Admin Offices. I don't know how tall he was, but dude was a giant to a kid.
Thinking back my first male teacher in 7th grade was my TX history teacher, who was also a coach.
Obviously different times - definitely didn't have a bunch of gay indoctrination books in the library or the book lists we ordered our Hardy Boys books from.

We have experience with that in my household. Wife stayed home until the youngest went to kindergarten because it didn’t make sense for her to work just to match daycare cost. I got more hot meals that way too.

Wait, why is the president of a Jesuit university, female?
Ignatius must be rolling in his grave.

I believe that. I also believe it’s an additional consequence of feminism: eternal boys that live on Moms couch because there’s no dad in their lives and she’s a so-called strong woman that don’t need no man. 30 year olds that play video games and bum pot money from momma.
