Louisiana Senate advances LSU-backed athlete pay secrecy bill

The Louisiana Senate voted 22-13 Tuesday to advance legislation backed by Louisiana State University that would shield records showing how public university athletic departments divide revenue-sharing payments among college athletes and individual sports.
A last-minute amendment was added to make the secrecy provision retroactive, meaning the bill could apply not only to future revenue-sharing records, but also to records already created or requested.
House Bill 608 by Rep. Tehmi Chassion, D-Lafayette, would still require public universities to disclose the total amount spent each fiscal year on athletics revenue sharing. But the bill would block disclosure of payments to specific athletes, allocations to specific sports or athletic programs, and records tied to negotiating athlete agreements.
That means the public could see the overall price tag of an athletics revenue-sharing program, but not how the money is divided among football, basketball, women’s sports or individual athletes.

Why did we need legislation for this?
It’s not a secret the best players get more money.

Nope don't like this nor do I not like the idea they won't pay taxes (if that gets floated again)

glad they're focused on the important things.

Imagine the money laundering potential.

because certain reporters, mainly the tigerrag which is a left wing site filled with commie figs, wants to hurt LSU and wants them to release how much each individual player is being paid so they can write about how its unfair the white QB is making more than the black womens basketball player.
also they want to use it to cause a riff in teams
if it doesnt pass and they were forced to release individual pay, schools like Ole Miss would just come in and pay 25-50k more and get them to transfer.

I see your point.
The players need contracts and NDA’s.

they still have to release the total amount spent. this doesnt include nil, but the rev share total has to be released and the individual amounts are auditable and will be audited.
not really any money laundering potential
now the tax thing....yea frick that. i will fight anyone that thinks that the athletes shouldnt have to pay taxes. frick them. rather lsu go 0-12 every year then that shite pass

What’s the incentive here to protect the multi-million dollar “student” athlete professional.
We know the coaches salaries, why not the players.

Making it tax exempt is going to have a hard time getting over the equal protection legal hump. Some influencer doing fashion videos out of her dorm room will have a lawyer lined up the second that passes asking why they don't get their NIL income exempted.

I’m not a fan of the NCAA but stuff like this is making me not want to be a fan. Just like Pete Golding threatening to take the NCAA down. He’s a dipshit that is going to say what everyone already knows. Ole Miss is doing anything they can to win and that will be over this year when they lose and the NCAA slams their dick in the door. This is forcing other schools to behave like them and it’s going to be stopped immediately.

State universities are the best slush fund going on 40 years.

We’ve been doing that for decades, no need for gubment to get involved.

I’m torn on this.
On the one hand I want LSU to have every competitive advantage possible over our athletic peers.
On the other hand, athletes already get so much money and preferential treatment that they should now get more? It’s nauseating just like when it was proposed NIL money was state tax free for athletes. Thankfully those failed.

Why should their salaries be covered up when policemen, fireman, nurses, teachers, and road workers aren't protected as such?

why should they be released? tell me what purpose it serves, every single thing is available by audit, the total spent it released etc
but for 1, its not public money paying it. its not tax money. that is 1 reason why and since when are nurses salaries released? only government jobs are released.

As a taxpayer I’d want a full accounting of what the university is earning and paying.

Maybe not a QB who's making a few million.
But a LB that was getting $350K from LSU might be tempted by an extra $50K
