Yet we have so many directional state institutions of higher learning.

Southern states always score low in these rankings.

We all know the reason, but we dare not speak it.

I’ve now spent several years working in New Mexico for work. This includes some of the ‘nicest’ areas of Albuquerque, etc.

There is absolutely no way Louisiana and Mississippi should ever be ranked below that absolute shite hole of a state.

Rank it what you’d like.

Ok, but Louisiana even ranks last among the southern states. There is no reason for Louisiana to be thought of as a worse place to live than Mississippi, yet it is.

Louisiana has never recovered from it's historical Frenchness.

Clearly has problems and terrible leadership but If you make a little money then Louisiana is a fine place to live. If you have to rely on the government or the "community" yeah, I could see where it could suck.

But yet we don’t want New Yorkers or Californians

Make it make sense

We don’t want free loaders and criminals, or people who enable them.

The state needs to make itself unattractive to those who fit those categories.

Where the state has the power, it should offer as low as possible government benefits of every type and make it very difficult to qualify and to remain eligible.

Have world class fraud enforcement and the harshest punishment allowed.

Make other states more appealing to free loaders and criminals.

Taking this ranking seriously is laughable. If cuisine was a category, LA, esp. S.LA, would be ranked #1. And rated #49 in natural environment? A freakin joke 'survey' and 'article'.

Whether is 41, 49 or 50, Louisiana should be better.

The Midwestern and northern states are always ranked higher strictly due to demographics.

With it’s natural resources, coastline, culture, etc LA could be so much more than it is.

The coastline sucks and the culture is a double edged sword that leads to a lot of issues. I can’t argue with natural resources though.

Is this another list where white people name a bunch of states with low percentage of blacks as the best states?

Promising those things are how elections are won in this state, and those on government assistance don't have the means to move elsewhere unless FEMA is the one paying for it.

It boils down to the people.

Lot dont want to work and most are uneducated. This prevents big $ businesses from headquartering here, not enough workforce and people dont want to move to Louisiana because of the bad infrastructure and shitty climate.

So the economy is handicapped because of that in addition to the workforce, which makes it too costly to build infrastructure here, which prevents people from wanting to move here, and so on goes the circle of life.

Louisiana has no one to blame but themselves. Point your finger at " Purists " who stayed home or voted for Edwards out of spite.
