The Senate has one more elected GOP lawmaker than needed for a two-thirds vote, but Lake Charles Republican Sen. Ronnie Johns — traditionally an ally of Edwards — announced he’s skipping the veto session to recover from knee replacement surgery. That has some conservatives accusing Johns of avoiding the session to dodge the politically tricky override votes.
Important note from the article

frick the NFL, the NCAA, the NBA, NASCAR, MLB, MLS, WNBA, and all of them. They don’t decide shite. Our elected officials do. We elected them.

Given that there was no 2020 Final Four and IIRC the 2021 tourney had few if no fans, who gives a shite about the 2022 Final Four?

If that happens, so be it....

What you're starting to see is the predictable way this political grandstanding will end.
I had suspected that JBE and the LSA had enough power to stop the override session entirely....I slightly miscalculated on that.
However, what you are going to see here is that 1 or 2 (maybe more but not a lot more....likely Senators that may not be running in the next election or won't be in office next term for some reason) Senators are going to break from their original vote sighting the fact that they have counseled with the sheriff's in their jurisdiction and have come to agree that anyone that elects to carry a concealed weapon needs to have mandated training.
Bam...the veto override doesn't pass the Senate and avoids the politically tricky vote in the House.
I don't have a great read on the tranny bill, but my gut tells me that there have been a lot of calls from a lot of constituents to a lot of legislators in support of that bill.....I'm 60/40 that that veto gets overridden.
Now we are back to the Rs get 1 and JBE gets 1....the agreement that was probably made between him, Schexnayder, Cortez, and the State GOP a long time ago.

Well if the 2022 Final Four is played without restrictions (a big if), I'd imagine it would be packed with people coming into town and spending money... in a city that is desperate for tourism.

Totally fine with this. Tired of my side cowering, mewling about money and not standing up and doing the right thing. Sick of the attempted blackmail over doing the right thing for our children and us.

Maybe we can put pressure on our La representatives to do something about pushing the anti-CRT bill through which is still pending in the legislature.
We do not want CRT marxist teachers teaching our La. children to become racists which the marxists want to further divide the U.S..

1. With everyone starting to put restrictions back in place, who thinks that the tournament happens and will allow spectators?
2. Right about now, I could give a good goddamn about New Orleans because their leadership has met the city disintegrate and they refuse to do anything about it.
What’s worse for NOLA anyway, missing out on the Final Four or a top prospect getting shot and killed on Bourbon?

quote:A quorum in Louisiana is only a simple majority of the members in each chamber. Texas requires 2/3 for a quorum. Regardless, the LA veto override would require 2/3 to vote in favor anyway.
or just disappear to DC like the shitbags from Texas?

No I think the agreement was, JBE will let the transportation funding bill go without a veto but Cortez kills the veto session in the Senate.
But JBE miscalculated. Popular support for a veto session was too great and Cortez either no longer wanted to, or even could, get his senators to fall in line.
So JBE is no longer dealing with House and Senate leadership. He has to win this by leaning on individual legislators. While that's a good thing, he doesn't have to win many. I don't see any house Republicans flipping. But all JBE has to do is get 1 or 2 not to vote and get the democrats and democratic leaning independents to fall in line.
He already took Johns off the board and Connick is the off on at least carry. BTW Johns is term-limited...Connick is not. That is, Connick could still be subject to pressure from his constituents.

quote:frick them. Stop letting outside organizations and corporations bully your politicians into doing their bidding. It worked a few years ago with getting North Carolina to back down on their tranny bathroom bill because NC was standing alone at the time. That's not the case this time around. Lots of states have either passed or considering similar bills now. If states don't back down from the outside pressure, the NCAA and NFL are either going to back off or have to host all of their events in New York and California.
we will lose the Final Four and who knows what else

Add to that Representative Hilferty who as of right now is a no on constitutional carry. She was absent on the vote in the house. I've already emailed her, Gonna call today. And Connick. And John, who had already caught hell for killing the 2A sanctuary state bill in committee. And I'm pretty sure hes getting a sweet gig at a casino job when the dust settles here

Am I the only one who thinks it's crazy that the legislature would convene its first ever override session just to kick the teenage trannies, who are not playing women's sports in Louisiana?
