Good grief man! It’s already against the law to collect unemployment if there are jobs available!
Government is the problem.

Republican House lawmakers on Thursday began advancing a proposal to offer Louisiana residents receiving unemployment up to $1,000 to go back to work, but only if they give up their right to claim jobless benefits for six months. GOP lawmakers on the House labor committee added the language pushed by Rep. Mike Echols into a separate measure that sought to modestly increase the maximum weekly unemployment benefit offered in Louisiana. The vote to add the incentive provision was 6-5, with Republicans supporting it and Democrats in opposition. The idea of a one-time bonus payment stems from Republican claims that expanded federal jobless benefits have depressed people’s interest in returning to employment, leaving businesses with difficulty finding workers as they dig out of the pandemic’s damage. “The intent of this legislation is to get people back to work as quickly as possible,” said Echols, a Monroe Republican. “Our businesses are struggling in this state, and this is an incentive.

Louisiana is Mississippi without knowing it’s Mississippi. At least Mississippi owns who they are.

I have an even better idea...kick them all off unless they have worked in the past year and can prove a legitimate layoff. Plenty of jobs have been open for months now in a lot of areas.

Do Democrats want people to have a job?
Posted on 5/14/21 at 7:00 am to Revelator
frick no. I have been working the entire time in a job that has put me around thousands and thousands of people and constantly traveling all year. Even in the early days, we didnt go home. Just like many others who continued to work, like plant operators, police, firemen, doctors etc.

Same here.
Plus it’s a very stupid idea.
What person who is getting $300 a week from the Feds to not work is going to accept a one time $1000 payment instead ?

How is this any different than a ransom ware scam . Pay me or go without workers . People getting this double payments are not going to work as long as they get paid to sit home . If they get 12 - 15 dollars per hour in UE checks then putting in a work week for a extra 4-5 dollars per hour , 16 -19 per hour, means they’re getting ripped off

Stop giving people unearned money. Period.
If the able bodied don’t want to work, CUT THEM OFF.

This is anecdotal evidence, but I've heard it from an electrical contractor, a restaurant franchisee, and a grocery store manager all THIS WEEK:
quote:
Last year was a great year, even without PPP. Once we figured out how to operate, the business came back quickly. Government was the biggest impediment to us having record years. This year would be even better, but the problem is we can't get enough people to keep up with demand. They come in, fill out applications, and have no interest in taking the job when we offer it. They're making more money on unemployment, or not enough more if they come back to work to avoid being lazy... They all know they'll have their pick of jobs when the free money runs out

I propose a "don't get your arse beat by your working neighbors" voucher for returning to work.

We may have the dumbest legislature in the Union.

So can I quit my own company and rehire myself for a stack?

You would be surprised.
Lazy people are painfully stupid, for the most part.

But extremely resourceful when it comes to freebies.
There is a section of the population that can tell you about every free government giveaway imaginable, but doesn’t believe the earth is round.

A real conservative legislature would pass a bill trying to force (not sure if they can legally do it) the governor to no longer accept the federal "boost" to unemployment.
A LA conservative legislature wants to take even more money to pay people to go back to work.
Hint: A one-time $1,000 bonus sets an awful precedent.

Louisiana is the worst state in the country. Mississippi is starting to look like FL compared to LA.

Can I just move back to Louisiana, take the $1000 and work a job for a day, then go home?
