This bill was being discussed in the Revenue and Fiscal Affairs committee just now, and the author Rep. Danny Connick just asked that the bill be deferred. Anyone know why?

My rep. just replied to my email. Apparently, the senate added 2 bad amendments as a requirement to get the votes, so the bill's author deferred it. They basically "killed it with amendments" is how she worded it. She said it will be back on the agenda in 2024.

McCormick is a 2nd Amendment absolutist and wants no restrictions on the right to carry. Go back and look at some of the House and Senate Committee hearings on his bill. The state Chiefs of Police Association and crime statistics are not on his side.

Sen. Luneau (Democrat) proposed amendments requiring the completion of an online handgun education safety course and State Police to maintain a list of people who have completed the course and maintain a website portal for the online handgun education course.

So, that pissed McCormick off and he requested to voluntarily defer his bill.

Wanting permitless concealed carry without safety training is not going to pass through the legislature. McCormick knows it but doesn’t give a shite.

Promises promises.

Bill Clinton promised to fix the illegal immigration problem if he was elected.

IDGAF what they say or do.

I don’t recall the 2nd Amendment stating “so long as crooked, douchebag politicians in LA say it’s okay.”

this "IDGAF what they say or do"

It would be comical if it wasn't down right unconstitutional. Our society is brainwashed to believe that these laws and lawmakers override the constitution of our Republic.

You’re right: Luneau is a Democrat.

His district includes a portion of Alexandria, so I doubt he could get elected as a republican.

It’s kind of weird to say that you don’t want to hurt law abiding gun owners and then get pissed off if the law (prescribed by the legislature, controlled by Republican supermajorities in both chambers) wants to ensure that you know how to handle a gun, how to properly clean it and use it., and that the state knows that you’ve done it by you completing an online course.

This would also give you reciprocity with other states that allow concealed carry.

… but I guess it’s the hill he’s willing to die on for constitutional carry.
