didn’t see all that; I don’t use social media very much. What were the teachers saying was bad about #2?
Some liked the raise/debt pay down, but others were weary of losing the projects supported by the $2B in the constitutionally protected funds.

No one trust Landry, hope he faces a Republican challenger. If not I'm not sure he would beat Edwards.

Sorry but my church said don't vote for amendment 2 and I believe my church over these snake oil salesmen that moonlight as politicians

That’s not how I read #1. I didn’t think there would be more courts overall, but potentially better acumen presiding over the specialized courts.
From the PAR Guide:
quote:
The second part of the amendment would broaden state lawmakers’ authority to create specialty courts, removing the jurisdiction limit to specific parishes or judicial districts. The Louisiana Legislature would be able to set up new trial courts of specialized jurisdiction that could be statewide or regional with a two-thirds vote of the House and Senate.
From the Sec's office
quote:
Proposing to amend Article V, Sections 5(B), 15(A), and 16(A) of the Constitution of Louisiana, relative to jurisdiction of courts; to provide for disciplinary proceedings over attorneys from other jurisdictions concerning legal services in the state and over related unethical practices; to authorize creation of courts of limited or specialized jurisdiction; and to specify an election for submission of the proposition to electors and provide a ballot proposition.
You're a smart guy. That we both read this differently, to me, underscores either how poorly these amendments can be written or how they are purposely written so in order to obfuscate attempts to sneak in growth of state government.

Black people on my Facebook feed are actually bragging about the amendments being defeated. Talking about how this is what happens when WE show up and stand on business, and that 2026 is going to be THEIR year. Never underestimate how much the vast majority of these people quietly hate you if you’re white.

Maybe they should make the amendments about only one thing
They tried that with the inventory property tax elimination several years ago and it failed miserably. The grifters tied it to a teachers pay raise in amendment 2.

It looks like the people don’t want to raise teacher pay or give seniors a tax break. I guess this makes it easier on the legislature next tine teachers ask for their raise or stipend. Sorry, we put that to a vote and the people shot it down nearly 2-1. If you want a raise, go ask your local school board who encouraged you to vote against your interests.
Seniors, you need help because your cost of living has gone up due to Biden’s inflation, go ask your local government to help you out. The state spoke and you voted against your interest.
Oh you are complaining because some kid dud some bad shite at 17 but we couldn’t put him away for longer because the idiots voted it down. Blame the people who voted.
Oh you don’t like appointed judges making the decisions, we could have an ejected judge but the people voted that down. Sorry!
Your business pays inventory tax and you may not be able to make ends meet this year. Blame the people who didn’t want to get rid of this stupid costly tax.
This might be the best thing that ever happened to the legislature. They have cover to say no to most special interests and overly inflated groups asking for change.
Way to screw yourself Louisiana

It’s a major red flag for Landry. The people don’t like his agenda. It’s also a sign of apathy on the Republican side since last November. Our side isn’t motivated and that’s an even bigger problem.
Landry needs to go back to the drawing board and abolish the income tax and get behind major tort reform. He does those 2 things and he’ll win re-election in a landslide.

I believe most teachers were against CA2 because it would take from the retirement fund.

I was o.k. with him until he tried to pull a Huey Long and take over DOTD with a last minute sketchy request to Civil Service. That was very crooked.

Again, it added $2 billion to the retirement fund.

This may be the stupidest comment I've ever read on here.

Any time there is an election for so few things I assume they hope to pass it with low voter turnout. For me that raises a red flag. I'd like to find out how much tax money was used putting this out to vote.
I'm not voting yes for anything until it is to abolish the state income tax. And if that doesn't happen soon then it is time to move to a friendlier state.

MS eliminated the income tax this week
No they didn't. They lowered it to 3%. And said they might lower it in the future if the budget allows.

Oh please. We spend more per student in state funds than both Florida and Texas. Money is not solving the problem.
We have the highest effective tax rate in the country. And still have income tax. Where’s all that money going?
Landry is right. We are a state that’s accustomed to failing. And he’s just as big a part of the problem.
We elect stupid politicians that don’t give a shite about the state. We listen to teachers whine about how underpaid and ill equipped they are yet we are one of the worst education systems in the country. We feel bad about not passing extra funding for police yet we have one of the highest crime rates in the country.
Where’s the accountability? Look in the mirror.

quote:none of that is true. These all failed because they crammed 5+ things into Amendment 2 and made a huge push to get it passed, despite no one being able to articulate specifically to the voters why they should vote on it.

If they broke Amendment 2 into separate parts, I have zero doubts some of them would've passed.

You folks need to be real careful who you vote for next election. We have the highest auto ins. In the country and nothing is getting done to lower homeowners ins. The ambulance chasers have to be shut down in order to get ins. rates lower. Laundry took campaign money from all of them. He was try to sneak other pork in amendment 2 . Read the last 3 words.
