Louisiana Department Of Agriculture and Forestry Scanner Enforcement Division Nazis

Just opened a business a few years ago, and recently the Agriculture and Forestry division rolled up. In a dodge dually with a massive gas tank apparatus in the bed of truck. Probably averaging 8 miles to the gallon. Anyway come inside and mention to our employees we did not register our price scanners, and owe a registration fee of $50 per scanner plus late fees.
I was not available via phone at the moment so they taped them up with orange tape, and said we’d be in serious trouble if we removed the tape before paying the fees. I paid the fees and registered, but had zero knowledge of a price scanner law to scan retail items. These guys are fricking loose cannons, and might I add whoever voted for this law should immediately be removed from office for such a petty item such as a price scanner.

I may be in the minority but can’t figure out what your talking about.

So let’s say you go into a gas station and buy a Coke Can. The cashier grabs a scanner to scan the barcode of your coke. The Department charges the employer an annual fee now for that scanner that scanned your drink. It’s a recently new law. I’m sure it was hidden in the legislation, but it needs to be repealed ASAP.

Government grifts at every opportunity.

Wtf that’s what I thought you meant but figured there is no way they would tax a barcode scanner. How did a law pass for this?

JBE saw you talking smack on PT board. Started smackin those gums until his goonies made it out to you

They would tax the oxygen you breath if they figure out a way to do it. What’s worse is we the people don’t do shite about it, at a local, state or federal level.

Why’d you pay them then? If you’re upset about a law, then do something about it. Don’t do what they’re telling you to do. That won’t send them a message that you’re upset about this.

Well I needed access to my scanners again since they wrapped them in an orange bubble wrapper. I’ve already written my local rep about it. They also charge fees now for weight scales used in a commercial kitchen.

The government giveth nothing, and taketh everything.

These guys would be proud of the work ethic of those fellas.

The insanity in LA is rampant. A few years back someone tried to repeal the florist license (yes you must have a state issued license to arrange flowers), they went nuts screaming about the revenue the state would lose.

Ask the GOP member who is the Speaker of the House in the Louisiana legislature.
Ascension, Livingston, St. James, and St. John the Baptist, that's your boy.

Umm, carbon footprint taxes and shaming are coming for those not elite. It's already being monitored in many corporations including mine. Many are being scored and don't realize it.

This is not some new law. My scales and scanners have been inspected for at least 10 years. Same people who make sure the pumps at a gas station pump a gallon when it says it pumps a gallon. I will say I don’t have to deal with some arse like you did.

So when I read this I thought they did this to your employees!

They always charge certification charges for digital meat scales and have been doing it since at least 1990. I worked at a cold cut deli and they would come but periodically to inspect them: I assume the owner of the store paid a fee for that inspection sticker.
