Yes. Trump and Manchin do agree with using cheap clean coal and preserving the senate filibuster. Thomas Sowell probably agrees with both of them on these issues too.

Wrong, Jon.
Manchin will run as an independent THIRD party candidate.
Biden will be toast, and Trump could be in deep doo-doo, also.

You're suggesting a guy like Manchin has a chance to win as a Third Party Candidate in this scenario?

If he's running against Biden and Trump?...you're damn right!

Do you not see the vulnerability of the Democrat candidate?

In this hypothetical, Biden is the Democratic nominee, and I think Biden is very vulnerable.

Which is why I do not want there to be anyone that is to Biden's right running third party.

What crucial state would Mancin swing to hurt the DEM candidate? He's pretty loathed and outwardly hated by the urban-DEM population.

Nah. He wouldn't win a single electoral vote. But he would play spoiler in alot of battleground states.

Just like Perot.

Which state does he win? Let's give you WV for the sake of this discussion (although, in reality, I think even it is dubious), give me another one and outline to me where his plurality of votes come from.

Georgia.
Pennsylvania.
New Hampshire.
Maine.

Generally, I see Manchin as handing close states to Biden (GA, AZ, WI, etc.). But I could see Manchin handing Trump a couple of states like Virginia and NH, where there is a "moderate" Democrat population.

I don't see Manchin actually getting a plurality in any state. 15-20% would probably be his ceiling in any given state, IMO

Abortion, no.

Wrong. Manchin is anti abortion after 20 weeks and opposes public funding for abortion. Same as Trump.

Taxes, no.

Wrong. Manchin has repeatedly blocked rolling back Trump tax cuts despite his comments to the contrary.

Ukraine funding, no.

Wrong. The Trump administration kicked off the Ukraine grift with $250 million in aid back in 2019. Trump’s on the fence posturing now means nothing.

Trade, no.

Wrong. Manchin voted for and supported USMCA.

quote:

Borders, no.

Wrong. Manchin literally ran ads supporting Trump’s wall and voted to fund additional border security measures.

Regulation, no.

Be more specific.

Judges, no.

Wrong again. Manchin was the only dem to vote in favor of Trump judge nominees at least a dozen times.

Why would you get so many downvotes for this? Trump has his Trumpkins in a mojo spell.

Why are you bad at opinions? Yes because moderates who were going to support Trump would switch to Joe Biden lite in Joe Manchin. Politics are too complicated for you

If it comes to pass, would there be a possibility of a friendly wager on the subject?

Manchin would take more votes from Trump via suburban Republican woman who hate mean tweets than he would from Biden.

None of those women are voting for Trump anyway. It’s either Biden or stay home.

Absolutely. There aren't enough truly independent voters or undecided voters to give someone who is as much of a known quantity as Manchin the plurality anywhere.

There are several states where I think he could get 15% of the vote though, which would significantly impact the results of the election depending on where his votes come from. Generally speaking, and in most states, I believe his support would come from GOP-leaning independents and "moderates" --- not progressives or the urban vote. Thus hurting Trump most places.

It's possible. Lots of moderate Republicans love them some Mancin and it would be easier to vote for him than Biden (b/c they're automatically not voting Trump under any circumstance).

We saw in 2020 and 2022 how the DEMs view candidate quality, so I don't get all these people thinkin Mancin will skim major votes from Biden in key states. These are the same people who voted for a non-campaigning idiot in 2020 and a functionally disabled senator in 2022

Not the same as Trump. Trump has stated many time his position on abortion, he is against it but for exceptions, life of the mother, rape and incest, "just like Ronald Reagan".

Okay, Manchin is a Republican on taxes.

Okay, Manchin is a Republican on USMCA.

This is good then. Trump is still tougher on border policy.

Okay.

You've basically made the argument that Trump, Manchin and Sowell are politically aligned.

Yep, it would cut both ways. Many of my fam are moderate republican and will leap at the chance . While they will never vote for Trump, they will look at Manchin.

Personally, don't like him much. But welcome him to the race.
