Fast forward to the NYT in two years:
Amidst historically low television ratings and poor revenue rejections, NFL executives ponder how to punish all the racists, sexists and homophobes who still inexplicably refuse to consume their product. And despite an uptick in the critical under 25 metro transsexual demographic that the NFL has targeted, white , racist, males over 35 still seem to be tuning out. The 2021 demand that all cheerleader squads be half male has similarly been unpopular with fans. Oakland's all-burkhah non-dance squad has also alienated viewers.

Yeah about that not listening part. NFL players may want to start listening for a change. You can't go out and do something offensive then tell the offended they shouldn't be offended. Doesn't work that way.

How about this?
Let every NFL player name a charity of choice before the season.
Make the National Anthem participation a mandatory team activity. Participation would mean attend and stand silently. If you kneel, disrespect or skip it, the result is a $50 grand fine. This fine, and any other fine they incur, is withheld from pay by each team, and given to their chosen charity (ANY charity) after the season.
Enforce. Let's see how deep their dedication to their chosen cause is, whatever that cause is. They could do some "good", but with lighter wallets.

I couldn’t care less if they kneel but they’ve had multiple opportunities to be heard but they aren’t asking for anything.

Exactly. I say a better option, and one that wouldn’t disrespect the flag or piss off the people who love their country, would be to stop the game at some point after a TV timeout, and they can kneel and whine about their oppression then.
