Some people take it that way. Some people are offended. That's all that matters right? I don't think the confederate flag is anything more than a totem of southern nativism, but others are offended.

Maybe I’ve said this here before, but if your environmentalist sister decides to stage a Greenpeace protest at your mom’s funeral, no one would be sympathetic with her retort that, “You’re missing the point if you think this is about disrespecting mom.”
But you did it during her f’ing funeral! If you don’t want the message to get lost, then don’t pick a time when attention is universally recognized to be appropriately placed on something else.
