Not confirmed. Radio traffic is using the term “patient count”. In my experience that’s either courteous confidentiality or accurate terminology. They’ve also used the term victims in other context.

Wow. Extremely unfortunate that a lot of air safety agencies and practices got terminated right before this happened It’s almost like those institutions serve a purpose and aren’t excess spending. So incredibly sad that preventable loss of life occurred so tragically
ATC did their job. They advised the helicopter.
You would know that had you read the thread. But you want to make it political instead of informative.

DC has got to have the most advanced radar in the world. How the frick don't they know down to an inch where these two aircraft are at? It's the Patomac river not like searching for the Malaysian 370 flight
They do know. Sounds like they told the helo to get eyes on and pass behind the airplane. For some reason they did not. They are pros but every person I knew who died in a helo accident was due to pilot error at some level.

Which agencies got terminated that would have prevented this?

Yes they were asked by tower if they had the crj in site. The audio stopped before you hear the reply.
A buddy says the 60 and rj were on different tower freqs since one was landing and the 60 was transitting the airspace

Nobody is intentionally going to cause a mishap.
Sadly there have been several incidents over the years of pilots intentionally crashing their own planes. It's extremely rare but it's at least a possibility they'll have to rule out. The data from the helicopter should very quickly determine if it was just a terrible accident or something more malicious.

I saw that tweet, too. Seems like those helios are out there all the time. I think, so far, the most likely explanation is the the helo had eyes on the wrong jet. This is horrible.

Do military aircraft communicate with FAA?
Yeah. My guess from the audio would be the heli pilot and ATC were way too comfortable because they both are in the area daily and nothing ever happens, until it does.

Since you seem to already know exactly what happened please explain how someone who was recently terminated would have prevented this incident.
Be specific.

Even though I know X can be a cesspool, it is still so disheartening to see how so many are quick to politicize. This is tragic and regardless of the cause is not a political victory for anyone.
When political decisions potentially directly lead to tragic, destructive events in society, it is our duty as citizens to speak out against those policies for the betterment of society.
It is tragic and it is incredibly unfortunate that the conversation needs to be had, but it does need to be had

The copter pilot, after he confirmed he had the visual on the plane, was instructed by ATC to cross behind the inbound.
ATCs don't fly the planes/choppers.

What does this have to do with anything? The plane is in two pieces in the river and the chopper is reported to be upside down in the river.

An aviation mishap is an unplanned event that results in injury, property damage, or a failure of an aircraft system. Keep hating
