Influential people

quote:

LIVINGSTON — A Livingston Parish librarian who authored a book detailing her experience fighting against book banning has been named on a Time Magazine list of the most influential rising stars of the year. Amanda Jones was named as one of 100 people on the 2025 TIME100 Next list, published on Sept. 30. "Superman" actor David Corensweat, WNBA star Paige Bueckers, "Sinners" breakout star Miles Caton and Louisiana native country star Lainey Wilson joined Jones on the list. Paired with her listing was a brief essay by "Sex and the City" and "Hocus Pocus" star Sarah Jessica Parker.

"In 2021, Amanda Jones was recognized as a School Librarian of the Year by the School Library Journal for her work at a Louisiana middle school. The following year, speaking up against an attempt to ban LGBTQ+ books in her local library led to a storm of backlash," Parker wrote. "Through it all, Amanda has never wavered on her commitment to free speech and education."

Jones first garnered attention when she spoke out at a public meeting about book censorship, particularly literature about the LGBTQ+ community. Since then, she has received harassment and criticism, which she turned into her half-memoir, half-manifesto "That Librarian: The Fight Against Book Banning in America" in 2024.

Many should be banned from the kids section. Should not be banned from other sections of the library.

If she wouldn't defend Mein Kampf for children being in the childrens section. Then she needs to stfu. If you are going to support the 1st amendment. You need to defend all of it. Not just what you support. We have laws banning smut away from children. That is basically what these books are.

Free speech? If the books were about The Protocols of the Elders of Zion free speech would quickly take a back seat.

The same people who allow LGBTQ books in libraries never had LGBTQ books in libraries when they were kids.

What was her stance on Mein Kampf? Is it allowed in the children’s section? I don’t know the answer to either.

I agree with your sentiment on being consistent in support of free speech.

If books of religious teachings and the Bible are allowed in the children’s section, so should books on Satanism

Maybe people don't want their kids to be exposed to graphic depictions of homosexual relationships, or any sexual relationships.

Huh?
This is a Wendy’s

Sounds like you’re trying to argue that currently there are no books banned in any public library. Back up that claim. I’ll wait.

book banning

Keeping groomer porn out of the kids sections of libraries is not book banning.

Left wing Publishers buying Dr Seuss ip and refusing to ever publish it again is still not book banning but is a lot closer.

Article on this issue

This link is not of the photos themselves. But, if you scroll about halfway down the article, there are links to the blurred images of this "kid's book" that was found on a lower shelf, in the kids section of the LP library. These images were shared on Facebook, and the person sharing them was banned for a month from Facebook.

Anyone that thinks a book with these images should be made available for a child to find browsing the library is a pedophile enabler, at best.

Can't believe the parents are ok with her being Live Oak Middle's librarian. C'mon Ryan Hodges. Must be something you can do.

They aren't banned.

A library can't hold every book known to man , choices have to be made. Communities decided they can't trust groomer librarians to make those choices and had to implement guide rails.
