The question is -- do you wait for a vicious dog to bite? That's not a perfect analogy, but in the end, does it make sense a wait for someone who is insane to exhibit violence?

Which side do you err on?

How do you find out they're insane? Do we just abandon hippa?

Nah. Just start throwing people in jail for what the government thinks they might do. What could go wrong? The could hire Ms.Cleo to fortune tell for them.

EDIT: may not work. Ms.Cleo has passed away.

Not relevant. These proposed laws allow for family members or law enforcement to start the process. Would be based on personal knowledge.

Meh

Are we talking after actual actions, or merely someone's "word"?

Police aren't mental health pros and, no offense, but family members aren't always friends.

You can take it to the bank that splitting couples will use this shite as a weapon

You clearly have no idea what HIPPA encompasses.

So... people with zero mental health expertise? Damn good thing family members never lie.

Your guy, Justice Scalia, said that there could be reasonable regulation of gun ownership.

They are not throwing anyone in jail. They are taking away guns with the gun owner having the right to a full hearing after the taking.

So if an insane person has guns, do you just sit back and wait to see what happens?

Not on my street with my kids. And hopefully not on anyone else's street with their kids either. Agree here, Tex.

Well

I would say that for every POTENTIAL crime you stop, you'll probably have 1000 misuses by family members.........and that's probably being VERY charitable.

I'd venture to say it will be used by a minimum of 25% of estranged wive's laywers

I oppose the concept. Nothing short of a criminal trial by jury should be capable of taking away an individuals' gun rights.

If you can prove he's insane, he can be forcibly committed. It's a shame everyone wants to do the end around on this.
