The homeless in downtown Denver is staggering

Just not true. I live downtown adjacent in Denver. Are the homeless a problem? Yes. Are they taking over blocks or making it impossible to use sidewalks? Completely unfounded. I always find it funny when people who don’t live here think they can characterize where I live day in and day out. Denver is a really nice city that has a metro pop. 10x greater than BR yet has significantly less violent crime overall.

A little off topic, but I noticed almost every hospitality worker in the ski resorts are Hispanic. There is no way they can function without illegals right now. It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Colorado (Denver and surrounding cities) was beginning to become a shite hole some 15 years ago when I lived there.

Denver is in the top 5 nationally with homeless issues. Is the government removing the eyesore where it's most visible? Yes, but the homeless population in Denver is bad.

It's absolutely amazing how the staunchest liberals will finally leave a state that their politics have totally destroyed, then migrate to a state that's doing well, continue with their old politics until they take the new state down, then move along to the next.
There's a name for that type of creature in nature. It's called a....shite FLY.

Was in Denver Saturday. It’s noticeable how trashy and run down it is becoming. Starting to get that NOLA vibe.

Next?...they've already ruined it. Imo Missouri is the one that is in the hopper for ruination by the lefties.

Northeast liberals ruined North Carolina and are presently ruining South Carolina.

Western slope area of CO is still nice and Red.

I could retire around grand junction or glenwood springs

So is Colorado Springs. Thankfully Colorado is a home rule state so the municipalities have more of a say in how daily life is conducted than most other states.

The Dems are overwhelmingly in Denver, Boulder, Pueblo and Trinidad (down near NM) but they are 90% Dems in those areas.

Moved here 30 years ago from Louisiana of all places. We are moving before the end of the year to a close, but more fiscally sane state.

It is hard to describe the change here in CO with a 30 second sound bite as the changes are more a death by a thousand cuts. I will try and explain as succinctly as possible some of these things that have driven us out and lots of other productive residents. If you take these things individually, it doesn't seem like a big deal, but they start to add up:

-Additional employee and employer payroll tax to pay for family leave and childcare provided and mandated by the State.
-Free school lunch for all. Paid for by removing the Federal itemized and standard deductions from the CO tax return for higher earners (above $300k). Basically, your Federal AGI is now your State taxable income. IN the past, Federal Taxable income and State Taxable income were the same. 95% of the general public won't understand this, but it is significant.
-Property taxes have gone through the roof as local school districts don;t make tough financial choices with declining enrollment and instead put questions to the voters who then vote for increased property taxes that "other" people pay. Specifically commercial real estate.
-Our tort system is becoming quite friendly to the trial bar over the last few years. Reminds me of LA when I left. My umbrella policy went from $1800 three years ago to $4900 this year. The main cause was increasing non-economic loss of up to $2,125,000 starting January 1, 2025 (previously the cap was $679,990). The legislature and governor are democrats, which love the trial bar.
-I will get a ticket for having my dog off leash at some open space, but the homeless camp I am walking by with my off leash dog goes undisturbed by the authorities.
-Idiotic, virtual signalling laws that accomplish nothing but feel good. For example, local city council exempted feminine personal hygiene products from the retails sales tax and crowed about how important this was.Needless to say the bums have free reign around our city.
-Public schools used to be top notch, not so much anymore. This is from first hand experience. Gifted and talented was quietly disbanded so that some kids didn't get their feelings hurt.

It's a lot of little things that start to add up but is hard to explain to your average Joe and doesn't make for a nice "gotcha".
