That’s the intention, and it has worked brilliantly in other causes. For example: the civil rights movement. The images of people being arrested for protesting against clearly unjust law enforcement swung voter sentiment and carried the day.
The difference, of course, is those two words “clearly unjust”. In this case, it is the protestors who are defending injustice.
