Do they really? Not arguing with you as you know far more about this topic than I ever will.
I mean they live in places like NYC,Boston, DC, La, San Francisco.
You need the infrastructure those taxes support in those kinds of places. In order to fuel the economic and population growth.
While i would like less taxes and more responsible spending i also don't see taxes as theft but as an investment in our society.

The democrats are not going to tax the rich . They are going tots the companies who will pass it onto us . There is a reason the super wealthy people support democrats. It’s not because they want to give away their money .

You have to calculate how much they make to see if what they give is so unbalanced. If I had 10 sons and 1 was a billionaire, and the others were average middle class income earners and I installed a family "annual income tax to help the family" of course the richest son would end up paying 99.99% of the tax money even if he is only 10% of my sons.
The government isn't our father, you filthy liberal.
And if you did that to your son/family, you would be a POS father.

Not that it necessarily tells the most relevant story, but it would be interesting to see the total federal tax burden by quartile or quintile. It would obviously be more balanced than income tax alone.

Average tax rate 26.8
All the while the bottom 50% pay an effective rate if 3.4%
It's horse shite and only ignorant people think the rich dont already pay their "fair share"

To be honest, they don’t pay their fair share.
They pay a great deal more.

Or you could actually be fair and make them pay evenly no matter salary

The question should be, should you pay a higher % for income over a million than at 50k?
They already pay 7 times the %

Reality is we probably need to tighten up business expense rules, reduce tax deductions credits for corporations, and then cut then cut the rate hell probably in half and you'd still increase the effective rate. There is that much pork in the tax credit game for corporations.
I’m gonna need you to chill out with the common sense. Common sense has no place in government, apparently.
Simplify the tax code. A flat tax, or a maybe even a VAT if the federal income tax is repealed, is the way.

The ultra rich have accountants and attorneys who they pay to get out of paying taxes. Also, something like 100 people have more wealth than the bottom 90 percent, to say they pay their “fair share” is a complete joke
Lets back up.
Why do we pay taxes? I.e what does it gain us at an individual level? It's a purchase of goods and services that the government promises to provide us for that tax.
The dude working at the gas station gets the exact same benefits as Jeff bezos gets. Same schools. Same military. Same police. Same roads. Same welfare "backstop". Same buildings. Same IRS.
Why should bezos pay $1 more than anyone else for the same products and services? Fact is...the people who pay nothing get the most in return.
It is the definition of 'unfair".

We don't have a revenue problem. We have runaway spending problems.
Its in no way sustainable.

Little of column A little of column B. If we don't go st it from both sides we will never move either needle enough. No one is willing to give major ground but you might get both sides to give up some minor ground to make enough overall difference

May be the most sane thing you've ever suggested.
I don't care for businesses investing in their business in order to avoid taxes. But they absolutely should not pay taxes on normal operational expense. I'm not sure you could ever draw that distinction though, with the exception of payroll.

That's because the bottom 50 don't have shite.

Forget that.
You have flat out given the Fed Gov too much power. It is a corrupt, bloated cesspool. Cut them(DC) down, give the power to the states.

I'm curious - should payroll taxes get considered, or just income taxes?

I'm not going to white night for some people have gotten very wealthy manipulating the system.
Stop looking at individuals and more as a "bucket".
A certain number needs to come out of the bucket no matter the distribution on the contents.
The whole premise of taxing everyone at the same rate just doesn't work due to have and have nots. The same number needs to come out of the bucket.

While i would like less taxes and more responsible spending i also don't see taxes as theft but as an investment in our society.
Roads? Bridges? Law Enforcement? Fire Departments.
Those all very clearly can be argued to improve the ability of citizens to operate freely and flourish.
But, taxation primarily as a punitive measure because "that's not fair"?
I fail to see how that is an "investment".
