A voucher system would have to have some boundaries to keep from having diploma mills.
Seems it was setup to fail.

What kind of effed up human being does that to kids?

There are a lot of greedy sociopaths out there who think the ends justify the means.

I have a real soft spot for kids and dogs.

I'm thinking more in terms by teacher union advocates and BAMN.

Theres a weird cultish feel to the unions and their relationship with their members. Its greed dressed up as justice. When I was student teaching I noticed the cultish behavior.

The system has turned into a job creator for grown ups and a day prison for kids. It seems to me the kids that suffer the most could benefit from options rather than being stuck in one failing school with no hope.

I hate to generalize. My mom was among the best teachers I ever had. She eventually was a union member. I don't know that she ever voted for a Dem POTUS candidate in her entire life.

The gap between the average teacher’s political views and that of their unions might be the biggest gap among all the unions.

But most public school teachers will toe the line on vouchers and school choice even if they’re otherwise conservativeish.

The current model isn't working for anyone it sounds like. Students, taxpayers or teachers. Gotta start somewhere.

Anyone against school choice for all is an idiot or a teacher union profiteer or both.

Hard to argue with that reasoning.

I have a cousin who is quite conservative, except on school issues. Shes a teacher, and will support the union view on education issues almost every time. S

None of that is apropos anecdotally.

That was our experience when starting a charter school. Teachers who were conservative in nearly every aspect of their lives poor-mouthed, lied or the district bureaucracy lied to them and they believed it; I was very surprised by a few folks.

It's sorta like cops. They may vote like you and believe like you in nearly everything, but they'll side with a "brother officer" against you 99 times out of 100.

Many of those references have some age in them. Are their newer studies?

There are some studies that indicate voucher recipients have a higher rate of attendance in college LINK and LINK

Vouchers are a great idea, but they run into the same problems as other competitive education. Marketing can overtake true outcome. I’ve seen colleges that would ring a bell and give you a free shirt if you put down a deposit during accepted students day. It sounds like I’m your example that some bad schools were able to successfully market an experience and grift some money. There are other policy methods to deal with that situation than declaring the program a failed program

So we can’t evaluate programs until they work?

The Louisiana Scholarship Program is a failed program. There is consensus on that among informed people. Even Betsy DeVos said it’s poorly thought out and executed and she’s the poster child for school choice.

The Department of Education on the Federal level needs to be abolished.

Lol. I didn't think you were that dense.

But here we go. You are a teacher in Louisiana that lives in New Orleans. Posting on Tigerdroppings.com while you are supposed to be teaching our kids.

Thank God we have an alternative such as the Archdiocese. I'll happily pay them to the alternative.

Let's just call it me exercising my voucher.
