Technically, no. But if you are saying that, then you have to say electricity or gas isn’t essential to life either.

It’s not. But it is essential to rent an apartment. Internet is NOT!

You keep saying that everyone who disagrees with you thinks ISPs are a completely free market.

That's nonsense and honestly, a meaningless argument.

In fact, basically all of you sky screamer arguments COMPLETELY stop at the "what if they......." part of the discussion.

Do you ever actually try to answer your own question honestly by playing devil's advocate with yourself?

Why do some people associate this with only support of Trump? I fail to see this as a partisan issue.

If you want internet service classified as a Title II utility, CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES IN CONGRESS AND TELL THEM SO. It's amazing how many people were placing their steadfast hope and trust in the damned FCC, a 5 person unelected agency board that the SCOTUS has expressly recognized as a political body that shifts with the prevailing winds of power.

What do you mean by "gas"?

Natural Gas? Propane? Gasoline?

Gasoline isn't free ... never has been. Never will be.

Plenty of homes are all-electric.

Plenty of homes do not have the internet ... like my parents, for example. They do just fine without it.

I heard a lady raising hell about this on the news last night. She asked the host if we really wanted to put control of the internet in the hands of a bunch of multi-million dollar corporations. I told my wife I’d much prefer that than putting it in control of a single multi-trillion dollar political machine.

Well... you may not be correct there, now, bucko. It IS considered part of this nation's 'Critical Infrastructure' by the Dept. of Homeland Security. As such, it comes under the same regulations and protections as if it was electricity, water and gas.

DHS Critical Infrastructure Sectors

This makes it subject to PRESIDENTIAL POLICY DIRECTIVE/PPD-21 that provides for regulations and funding for protecting it from harm because of the irreparable damage it would do to our health and economy if it were disrupted.

Is he wrong? Under the current federal law of the United States, is internet presently classified as a utility?

Was it classified as a utility before yesterday's vote?

All I keep hearing from your side is "well.... it should be!"

Because one of the main arguments in favor of repealing NN was to "reduce regulation" and empower the free market.

If the telecom industry is not a a part of the free market, how will relieving NN change the monopoly of the current stakeholders?

Ironically that's exactly what "small govt conservatives" do when they talk about MJ legalisation or FISA court reform.

When was the “current stakeholders” considered a monopoly by the US Congress?

My response is "Well it should be" without any problems.

Read what I posted about the internet and Estonia.

Again, another fine question. Which anti-trust laws are being violated?

The same congress that tells you that you need mandatory insurance?

I am not sure they are the best group to take prudent direction from.

Eta: Congress doesnt declare monopolies.
