You are right, freedom is a relatively new idea to the human species

This is true. And, it is difficult to maintain political freedom without real close-knit organic self-governance from families, real community (not the bastardized version of "The [insert racial/sexual group here] Community"), and accountable small units of government.

This is also why we don't have a direct democracy.

When the organic elements of self-governance erode (and are purposely destroyed), you end up with a bunch of individual drones seeking a dear leader.

But what we have right now is not governance, but a political aristocracy deciding what they think is best for us.

If you want to call it Aristocracy, it’s still governance It’s a society with rules and laws, a bloated, twisted version of what was once intended, but governance nonetheless.

I'm going to use this thread to discuss something I've been thinking about all day. There was a comment by someone opposed to the riot yesterday saying that they were 'nihilists.'

Well, I've had some deep discussions IRL with nihilists. They have one very strong point. 'Zach, 100 years from now nobody will remember nor care that you ever existed.'

But I have always considered myself a stoic. My father was a stoic. America used to have TONS of stoics. We didn't bitch and whine about everything that we have no control over.

Now we read about problems with climate change, domestic violence, racism, rich/poor gap, etc. The stoic response put simply is: 'I don't give a shite. Deal with it. I'll deal with my problems.'

Leftist philosophy is the opposite of stoicism. It's 'Don't worry, vote for us and we'll solve everything for you.'

That's a hard pitch for people to see through.

Our founders understood from their experience and study of history and philosophy that man cannot be immoral AND free at the same time. It doesn't work.

America isn't free right now because there aren't enough moral people living here.

Actually it’s “Let’s take care of the group, rather than just myself.” As a negative consequence, there becomes an expectation for the group to take care of me. For many it then becomes, “just take care of me.”

Go away troll!

There are many things I disagreed with Trump on. Most recently him not vetoing the spending bill.

He also made some bad appointments to his cabinet of swamp creatures to try and garner support. You can't rely on foxes to watch the hen house.

I come from a very hard/rough background, so mean words/tweets don't bother me.

We heard for four years your ilk call him a tyrant now you're saying he didn't rule like one.

Maybe he should have. You could have got a free helicopter ride.

He clearly wished he could rule like a tyrant, our pesky constitution just got in the way. After the events of yesterday this isn't even debatable anymore. And the fact our military leadership have no respect for the moron probably didn't help either.

You people are mentally ill. Just wait until the green new deal, medicare for all including non-citizens, and paris climate accords are all in place. Not to mention when they roll back the Trump tax cuts. This country is going to feel some economic pain. Then we will separate the wheat from the chaff.

It usually takes a massive world event to show people that your government can only assure one of them.

Most them think they want they because they feel like they are above the rules . I can’t wait to laugh at them when they realize that They too have to do as they are told.

Wall Street knows early on more stimulus will happen, after that is when the pain comes.

I haven't seen a cent of any of those crumbs that the ruling elite sent out. Maybe it will help you buy some red meat instead of a soy latte.

ETA: Don't know why I'm arguing with some bitch boy commie alter.
