But Ukraine is going to have to make a choice, and I argue they already have. Do they want to exist or not, both nationally and individually. They've already started on the corruption and it's clear Z wants out of office the second this war is over, so there is hope for the future there. (Plus, if corruption was an absolute killer there would be a few other countries who weren't apart of it *cough* TURKEY *cough* UNITED STATES* cough)
They have a long way to go to clean up corruption even with a good start.

Good post. The value of infrastructure and current contracts alone makes them nigh unassailable by any non-government entity, and there are only a few governments who could compete (and that's only if they went all-in).
SpaceX already puts up 50% of the tonnage in the entire world into space. The vast majority is Starlink.

Perhaps.
But I DO question how corrupt the Ukrainians actually are. If they were as bad as everyone thinks Putin and his cronies would have been able to play them off against themselves, easily - Z would have been dead from the start. But it didn't happen, and the only way that can be is that there are competent people in their government who know where they loyalty lies - that's not corruption, that's competence.
But Ukraine joining NATO will happen after this war is over.

A Ukrainian biz contact who was transferred by his employer to the US and who fought at the front several times from 2014 to 2022 then operated recon drones in 2022 told me that it is very corrupt.

Vols, I mischaracterized size of Europe to SpaceX and should have said that Europe is Little League in comparison.

Today we discussed security guarantees, and I'm thankful to the American side for underlining again that they have to be strong. There are different kinds of security guarantees on paper – in the document – which Steve will share with the Russians. We will hear his feedback afterwards.
I had a phone conversation with Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier on the train today. We spoke about sensitive issues such as Starlink, ballistic missile interceptors, and intelligence. We were very concrete and the conversation was positive. We shared the things we have to manage. And we will manage them, I'm sure of it. We decided that maybe in 48 hours we will get in touch again.
We are thankful that early warning is now working. This is very important for our people, because we can know when Russian ballistic missiles are coming. So, this morning began with positive signals from the American side. We now also have a constructive dialogue. It was constructive because all of us want peace – Ukraine, Europe, the United States. And we will see what happens tomorrow.
From answers to media questions in Oslo.

what was the /Ukraine position on mislabeling high nickel stainless steel scrap. Or transformers that were PCP free. Or corrugated roofing panel as asbestos free.

Corruption and bribes were the oil that kept the wheels of the USSR greased. I suspect that Putin cartel makes Ukraine look like Sunday school.

I have no idea. I do know that GSU (now Entergy LA and Entergy TX) drained PCB oil filled transformers and burned it in their trucks before the regs took effect. I also know that some demolition contractors would put quick lime in PCB oil so it would test clean in the 1980s here in the US. A major equipment dealer drained them into holes in their equipment yard and when the employee pension fund was raided to make a balloon payment on their loan to buy Pfaudler, someone called the state DEQ and reported and where to look. They went bankrupt. A transformer and electrical dealer got caught sending PCB transformers to CO and draining them on a ranch. I've heard of other companies doing this by supposed witnessses elsewhere.
UCC was strict about not letting such things happen. They had a shitton of them at a plant in TN or KY in the 1980s. I was partially involved in bidding that project.

What Russia claims and what Ukraine claims in this war are generally worthless in the long run.

Sounds like a statement by a desperate person and its not Rubio

So if Putin doesn't find the Ukrainian corruption it doesn't exist! Brilliant Z logic.

If they could join NATO, then I’m almost certain they would end the war, but Putin has no interest in allowing that to happen because he wants to have all of Ukraine. If they peace out now and capitulate, they might as well do an unconditional surrender and get it over with.
ETA: Also, the amount of celebrating about cutting Ukraine off in multiple threads on this board is pretty disgusting. The amount of people who blame us for interfering in Ukraine, say that’s why Russia invaded, then say we should have nothing to do with it is insane. The people happy about this are incoherent, they just want to bend over backwards to suck the dick of Trump and Putin. At least they could have the stones to admit it.

At the same time that Trump is exponentially increasing US corruption. At least Ukraine is decreasing it from the Soviet levels they started at.

Europe has been importing diesel, fertilizer and LNG out the wazoo even with sanctions, thus funding Russia's war. What Trump has been doing is pointing out what hypocrites the Europeans are

Sundowning. At least he's switched his attention away from pre-pubescent girls.

I said, 'His arse, shite, it's like a pile of muscle.' Then I looked at his legs and I said, 'Man, his feet are big.'"

More data on Tuesday's strike.
quote:
Ukrainian forces struck the former Ukrtelecom building in occupied Luhansk, now used by Russian-installed operator Lugacom. The facility was built on seized Ukrainian telecom infrastructure and serves as a key communications, data transmission and IT support hub for the occupation administration and Russian forces. Lugacom is also used to support censorship, monitoring and information control in the occupied region.

Best excuse for a berthing delay when swinging on the hook in the Black Sea is not optimal.
