Putin’s creating a situation such that Ukraine won’t be asked to join.

Outside of the US, Ukraine's military is 3.5 times larger than the next largest NATO member and is light years more technically efficient and experienced.

In every way except NATO manpower on Ukrainian territory, Ukraine is already a de facto member right now. The European members have already made the commitment and investment to assure their chances of being pulled into a hot war are minimalized. They will want to make that assurance permanent.

And you still think Putin will prevent them from joining NATO? It's not a matter of Ukraine joining NATO, it's a matter of NATO joining Ukraine.

Move the context much? Your statement was, "He won’t let Ukraine in the EU or NATO."

Ukraine doesn't want to be part of broke-arse Russia when prosperity's future is with the EU no matter what Putin's Peter the Great delusions are.

NATO needs Ukraine so much that Ukraine has tried false flags to draw NATO into the war multiple times

Not to mention the bitchfit Ukraine just threw about Starlink access.

Who needs who, exactly?

Volodymyr Zelenskyy /
@ZelenskyyUa
Sanctions relief will continue. I think the diesel deal and the move regarding the Lindsey Graham Act are not the end of it. Unfortunately.

It’s unfortunate because we all had great respect for Lindsey. He devoted his life to America. We had an excellent relationship with him. And shortly before the tragedy, Lindsey was in Ukraine. He always supported us very strongly and pushed for as much assistance to Ukraine as possible.

It’s difficult without him, I’ll be honest. I want to thank both Democrats and Republicans who supported his bill. That was a major victory: this truly bipartisan support. And now, the decision to undo all of this, to block all of it, seems wrong to me. And it definitely helps only the Russians. It only fuels their satisfaction and their desire to keep killing people. This certainly does not stop the war.

Christopher Miller
@ChristopherJM
Latest: ?Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."

He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population."

He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory."

"They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this."

He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

JMHO

Are you kidding? Putin's creating a situation where the European countries are going to beg Ukraine to join.

The next Dem president needs to nationalized SpaceX and starlink on day one. Can’t have a private company or private citizen able to put a thumb on the scale in favor of America’s adversary.

100%

I'd prefer an old-school Reagon/Buckley/Goldwater Republican take office but beggars can't be choosers right now.

Crazy talk.

14 years ago Russia invaded Ukraine. NATO did very little. 5-1/2 years ago Russia doubled down sending thousands of regulars in a special operation to take Ukraine. NATO said some things, but did very little until they realized Ukraine was holding off the Russians and pushing them away from Kiev. Then they started sending more and more aid.

There is no talk of inviting Ukraine into NATO. To do so would mean NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine and all out mobilization.

NATO is a defensive alliance. Taking in a nation at war is the same as declaring war. NATO doesn’t want war, they want peace.

Europe will continue to help Ukraine bleed Russia. The more Russia bleeds the safer NATO gets. Europe knows this, its a shame Trump does not.

Of course not. Neither did Ukraine. Neither did Chamberlin.

There is an unfortunate limit to rational thinking, after which it all falls apart. What's happening now makes sense under two conditions.

1 Putin will be killed if his spectacularly stupid war fails.
2 Trump is owned by Putin.

Is there another scenario that maps the real world better?
