This thread is about war in Ukraine, but nothing is getting posted about Kiev getting absolutely assblasted daily
Listen up bot. Nobody is talking about the strikes on Kyiv because they are not new. Plus they will not affect the outcome of the war. A lot of posts were dedicated to the topic earlier in the war and the general consensus is that it’s just useless killing if civilians by Russia. It’s useless because the past 4+ years of war have shown that attacking civilian infrastructure in Ukraine is not going to cause the Ukrainian people to give up.

Seems like admin should have a way to detect posters that have been banned making new alters.

. Finally, I believe that a lot of irrational ethnic hatred of Russians is driven by diaspora Jews who grew up hearing stories from grandma about “the Russians” who burned down their village, not understanding that if you believe in the new paradigm of the “Ukrainian” ethnicity then it was Ukrainians, not Russians, who burned down their village. But back then they were considered the same thing. Other than that, I don’t really have a take.
What about Christians like myself who know about Russians killing Americans in Korea? What about the Russians threatening us from Cuba? Russians helping to kill Americans in Vietnam?
Do we ignore how Russia set up the iron curtain? How they built and aimed thousands of nukes at us?
How about how Russia has repeatedly attacked their neighbors for decades murdering thousands?
I don’t have a Jewish relative to tell me all this. History tells me all this.

Despite what the KGB handbook 101 says, terrorizing civilians in a war just pisses off the population who already hates you.

Good news. Call this the Orban effect.

The EU is finally moving to fix its oldest structural disease: the veto. On 15 and 16 October, the European Council receives a legal package from the Commission designed to shift most decisions from unanimity to qualified majority voting.
The Legal Mechanism - The package uses Article 48(7) of the Treaty on EU, the passarelle clause, which requires no full treaty change. It was designed exactly for this kind of incremental shift without reopening treaties that would take years and give every obstructionist another veto over the process itself. The threshold for the new system is 55% of member states representing at least 65% of the EU population.

Germany assembled the pressure coalition in September: France, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Romania. These eleven states will push others in October.

The October summit will show whether the member states are serious about defending their own decision-making capacity. Or whether they prefer to keep a system where one compromised politician can paralyze 450 million people.

This video of the capture of 250+ Russian troops has grown legs - in Russia.
In spite of claims of AI created content or a collection of old prisoners, the real effect is the reaction within Russia. They know it's true and would confirm their suspicions of the beginning of a Russian collapse in that sector. Which speaks volumes about not only confirmation bias but their trust in their government's reports.
They remember Russian history.

The Third Army Corps video of roughly 250 Russian POWs near Lyman is doing more damage to Russian command authority than any Ukrainian press release could.

If confirmed, that number would mark the largest mass surrender since spring 2022.
Russian warbloggers are not hiding their reaction. They call the footage a humiliation. They demand honesty from their own military leadership. They admit the communication failure is total.
Kremlin propagandists are now publicly complaining that their frontline fiction is unsustainable.
quote:
[Bloggers] posts still read as defeatist, and their core complaint remains the same: the reports from the battlefield are built on lies. The result is a propaganda ecosystem that collapses the moment video evidence contradicts the official line.

The Russians openly describe their own sector as a mess. Not Ukrainian psyops, not Western media framing. Their own channels.
Units lost comms, no coordination, every soldier trying to survive alone. A crowd with rifles has taken up arms.
And the stabilization plan is already visible: another meat assault. They have no other tool. When command breaks down, the only order that still works is run forward until you become a 200 [dead] or a 300 [wounded]. This doctrine now covers everything.
Ukraine needs to keep the pressure high enough that every Russian attempt to restore order costs more than the disorder costs.

To be fair his point was on irrational ethic hatred of Russians and then 90% of what you listed can be attributed directly to the USSR and communism itself moreso than they can ethic Russians themselves.

This has always been my philosophy. I look at the people of a country to take responsibility for their leaders.
People say the Germans were good people. It was the Nazis who were evil.
I don’t buy that. German citizens did little to stamp out the Nazis.
I believe the Russian people haven’t done enough to make their government better. Now it’s not easy, but doing nothing to bring democracy to Russia facilitates dictators like Putin.
I may be too simplistic, but that’s the way I feel.
ETA: would you call Putin taking over private companies in Russia Communusm?

I’m not even doubting the reporting is true but that video is obviously AI. You can tell by the way the sunlight looks unnatural and the focus is kind of messed up. It’s good AI but it’s definitely AI. Looks like something you could make in 10 minutes on super grok.

Literally every single thing you listed was done by the Soviet Union, which included Ukraine and ethnic “Ukrainians” at the highest decision-making levels. Brezhnev and Khrushchev would both be considered “Ukrainians” by today’s definition. You should hate Ukrainians, not Russians, if that is why you choose to hate them. The only, and I mean the only reason for the irrational hatred of “Russians” is because for basically all of recorded history, there was (correctly) no distinction whatsoever between Ukrainians and “the Russians” in the western mind.

I admire the Ukrainians not for what they did in the past, but what they did after the USSR broke up.
They got away from “Russia” and formed a new country. They did not want to keep the status quo.
Unfortunately, things have not gone all that well for them. Most of it is because of their own corruption, but most of their issues are because of Russia.

No you're actually being fairly nuanced imo.
I think it's absolutely true that certain groups of people are more likely to end up having bad/corrupt governments. Russians historically have shown to be that. I don't think it's necessarily because they are inherently "bad" or something, there are a lot of elements that go into it. Culture, resources, history, how the rest of the world treats them, geography. That goes for anywhere.
Rhodesia for all of its obvious flaws was a fairly modernized place and now look at Zimbabwe. "In Rhodesia you drove on the left side of the road. In Zimbabwe you drive on what's left of the road".

Where was the capital of the USSR located and what country in the USSR had the majority of the power?

Well to be clear Russia has also continued attacking neighbors post-USSR
