He’s smart. Aiding Ukraine doesn’t mean including Ukraine unless they meet accepted standards.

His party doesn't support sending weapons or troops to Ukraine either. Basically they just won't be playing spoiler anymore but a lot of what Hungary itself will do won't change all that much.

Péter Magyar says he will unblock €90 billion in EU aid to Ukraine
According to him, the decision to allocate the funds was already made at the EU summit in December — without Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia — and he sees no reason to revisit it.
Magyar also criticized Viktor Orbán for inconsistency, saying he first supported the decision and later opposed it.
At the same time, Hungary will not participate in the loan itself, citing its difficult financial situation. Instead, the focus will be on unlocking around €17 billion in EU funds currently frozen due to the previous government’s policies.
In practice, this signals a return to the EU’s common line: not blocking aid to Ukraine while avoiding additional financial commitments.

Anybody counting on Hungary to help Ukraine isn’t bring realistic, but if Russia csnt coming on Hungary that’s a plus.

Nobody is counting on Hungary to do anything except not doing Putin's bidding, anymore...

I know some people from Canada, and Ireland, and the UK... all US citizens, now, but they all have said they keep emergency airfare back to those places in case they have a health scare.
And when asked about these stories, they all say the same thing, though one guy from the UK (who works for a Health Insurance company here) summed it up best:
"Who do you suppose has the money laying about to come to the US and pay out of pocket for an operation? I deal with these bills all day... a broken arm is $30,000 if surgery is needed... cancer? hundreds of thousands of dollars. SO who has that laying about? RICH PEOPLE! And what's the one thing rich people cannot stand being told? 'You'll have to wait your turn like everybody else.' They go insane. So they are not being told 'you have cancer, sorry, we can't treat you for 2 years and you'll be dead by then...' But they are not rushed ahead of everyone else who has cancer at the same stage and needing the same treatment in a timely fashion JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE MONEY! So they fly here where they are! I deal with people here who couldn't make it through your system in time to not die of cancer, because they didn't have the money to just jump out of the queue and pay some specialist out-of-pocket. We hear that in the UK and we think that is a horror story."

Hungarian election winner Magyar opposes fast-track EU membership for Ukraine
They just got rid of Putin's Trojan Horse in the EU and that's the best you can do?
Magyar is a Centrist, which in Europe means he's a rules-based conservative. So of course he's against changing membership rules. So are half the other countries in the EU.
But with that €90 billion EU loan now coming, Kyiv is in the same position as if it were in the EU. Form vs. Substance.
So why are you so desperate to post this statement? Oh yeah,

Russia has begun to lose its momentum in military recruitment. This is already evident even from their own statistics. According to German researcher Janis Kluge, who tracks these figures, recruitment rates in 2026 have dropped by approximately 20% compared to 2025. While Russia was recruiting 1,000-1,200 contract soldiers per day in the first quarter of 2025, that number fell to just 800-1,000 per day by early 2026. This is happening despite the fact that Russians continue to increase sign-on bonuses and contract payments. Russia's current war system is built on commercial recruitment, but this model is beginning to stall.

Sure, they are apparently still going to buy gas from whoever can get it to them cheaper though. It would be good if we can set it up as that being us.

Best I can do? The rest of us aren't on here at 2am posting because we get a salary from it. I posted it because I thought it was interesting given the narratives on the PT that the new government is going to be some kind of satanic leftist cult or something.

Well, the powers-that-be on this site blocked JB's azz so that person's gone, thank god.

Once again, there is no such narrative, or at least not on this thread. He's center right, doesn't like immigrants or completely trust the EU, and even came from Orban's own party before he got sick and fed up with all of the lying and stealing Orban has done to his country.
All that anybody outside of Hungary asks is that he not openly fellate Putin for the enrichment of his Baby-Boomer butt. Sounds like a great guy to me!

As I stated, they get private healthcare insurance so they can be treated in the US instead of waiting up to a year. In the UK a retirement home is NOT free. Everything you own, bank account, property, etc.. is given to the government in exchange for a decent room and care.
