Putin is in bed with North Korea and Iran in his axis of evil so all that other stuff he claims is nothing but a mystical smoke screen to confuse the gullible.
And there are plenty of them.
Putin invaded Ukraine almost 12 years ago. He launched a brutal war killing and hurting hundreds of thousands. Anyone believe this man is an instrument of good is deluded.

Speaking of Russian hybrid attacks next year, this new military logistics site in Romania will be a top target. It will be the second largest military logistics base in Europe and will double the through capacity for equipment and supplies to Kyiv. It is noted that although the new center will come under the direct command and security of NATO, the Russian GUR will want to build resistance to its location among the Romanian population.

Putin can’t take the entire Donbas in 4 years but he’s going to take the Baltics in a year or two? I just don’t buy it.
Exactly. The Russians couldn't take Kursk, a Russian village, so they are no threat to take the Baltics, at least from a purely conventional standpoint.
Putin knows this. The game he's playing, therefore, is a psychological one. His plan to use the threat of invasion as a way to bring about a political and psychological edge that would lead to political paralysis, playing off the states against each other, and working to get cronies like Trump and Orban elected in other countries.
Europe simply needs to come together as one fist. It would help if they could find a way to punish Turkey and Hungary for their issues but I'm not sure that's possible in the current European set-up.
But Russia's primary threat isn't it's military, it's the way that Putin interferer's with other countries and plays each off against each other.

You posted an X quote from "Vladimir Putin News" which paints Zelensky as knowingly poisoning his own troops??

Zelensky’s office insider reveals Ukrainian soldiers are being forcibly injected with “mandatory AstraZeneca COVID vaccines” that actually implant microchips to prevent desertion. If they retreat — chip activates, thickens blood, kills them.
This is stupid. Everyone knows Ukraine just shoots deserters

Just as the US did.

I also think that a Russian invasion of the Baltics would be suicidal, but I worry that Putin might convince himself that it would work.

Russia nibbling in the North, and they finally take Silversk. Ukraine still counterattacking in Pokrovsk.

Key Takeaways
Russian forces are conducting a new cognitive warfare campaign through limited cross-border attacks across a broad part of the previously dormant northern frontline in Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts. These two cross-border attacks likely intend to advance the Kremlin’s cognitive warfare campaign to convince the West that the frontlines in Ukraine are collapsing, such that Ukraine should concede to all of Russia’s demands.
Russian forces have not set conditions to start a new offensive across the international border in northern Ukraine. Russian forces notably have not prepared the battlefield in northern Sumy or Kharkiv oblasts for a major ground offensive through intermediate-range strikes against Ukrainian logistics.
The Russian tactics in the assault in Sotnytskyi Kozachok are not consistent with Russian assault tactics across the theater and suggest the attack was designed to be seen. Russian forces forcibly deported about 50 civilians from Sumy Oblast in violation of international law.
Russian forces have likely seized Siversk — a town with a pre-war population of less than 11,000 — after 41 months of fighting.
US delegations continued separate meetings with Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Miami on December 21 as the Kremlin continues to reject making compromises to end the war.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the border area of Belgorod Oblast and near Pokrovsk. Russian forces recently advanced in the Slovyansk-Lyman direction, in the border areas of Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts, and near Borova and Siversk.

This is what Putin's invasion plans look like. The rift didn't prevent the highest yet loan of €90 billion to Ukraine, but the EU spirit of cooperation is not as strong as it was. Politicians need money to win elections and stay in power. Just as in Belgium, Macron's financial supporters depend too much on that Russian money invested in France.
The Russian investment portfolio is starting to show it's dangerous side.

Took three days to sink in its moorings. What's the Russian term for 'bilge pump'? I guess that doesn't exist.

I like the way he thinks but we all know it's not happening. TACO would have to get permission from Putin first.

An explosion hit a car in the Moscow region this morning as the owner got inside. Russian media report the target was senior MoD officer Fanil Sarvarov, head of operational training, a veteran of Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, and the war against Ukraine. An IED was planted under the vehicle. Initial reports spoke of critical injuries; later updates claim he was killed on the spot.

It seems there is almost universal agreement in this thread that Putin is really incapable of going any further. Or at least he will be by the time this war is over. I also agree with it..but strangely enough, I've seen many of you say Putin won't stop in Ukraine and that's why it's so imperative to help them..... Strange.

It doesn’t matter what we say, look at what Europe is doing.
Immediately NATO got two new members. Led by Poland European defense spending jumped. The Baltic States are worried about getting cut off. European countries are building up their defenses.
They are worried about Russia. That’s obvious.
