Russians bombard farm in Kharkiv Oblast, killing 13,000 pigs
Olena Barsukova — 3 October, 14:27
Russian forces have bombarded an agricultural company, where 15,000 pigs were being kept, in the Nova Vodolaha district of Kharkiv Oblast.
Source: State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES)
Details: A total of 13,000 animals were killed and eight out of ten pigsties were completely destroyed by fire.
"About 13,000 pigs have died, with only around 10% of the animals surviving on the farm. The premises consisted of around 10 old concrete pigsties dating back to Soviet times. The strikes deliberately targeted the pigsties – some of them were hit three times by drones," said Oleksandr Yesin, head of the Nova Vodolhava hromada, in a comment to Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]
The large-scale drone attack on the company began at around 01:15, with a second wave following an hour and a half to two hours later. In total, about 20 Shahed drones struck the farm.
According to the State Emergency Service, a large-scale fire broke out: eight livestock buildings were ablaze, covering a total area of 13,600 sq m.

$33 an hour to refugees for yard and landscaping? How extremely selfish. Maybe if they want the big bucks they should just hand you a bag of food and an empty cup at Whataburger instead

The sweet tea is pretty good although I’d ssy Chick Fi La’s is better.
Why get an empty cup? Are you that tight?

You do know at many places you still get an empty cup that you have to fill yourself if you go inside...... Right ?

That self serve works. I do that at a gas station.

But don't waste your time applying to replace them in spite of the huge pay increase you'd get.

You're the one who thought the immigrant sob story was relevant enough to post to make yourself look like some kind of saint, but still won't pay them a fair market rate for the work.
You didn't even know the meaning of "semi-retired", you must really be hurting

A Russian FPV video shows a drone operator deliberately targeting a civilian woman
It reminds me of when I worked in Sarajevo, Bosnia and saw a small memorial on the sidewalk next to the main road in the downtown area.
The memorial commemorated the spot where an elderly Bosnian woman was shot and killed by a Serb sniper shooting from the hillside next to the city.
She was walking home carrying two small bags of food she was able to scrounge for her grandchildren waiting for her to return to their home so they would have something to eat.

If tweet fails to load, click here. 'Damper payments' are subsidies paid to refiners by the Russian government to make up for the loss of overseas exports of refined products and gas. Russia had halved the damper in September.
But that money has to come from somewhere...

The [Russian] parliament also approved an increase in mineral extraction tax on production of natural gas and gas condensate, a measure, which will increase costs for Kremlin-controlled gas giant Gazprom (GAZP.MM), opens new tab as a compensation for the damper payments.
Speaking of getting fricked, Kazakhstan has decided to follow the OPEC guidelines of increasing crude production, thus lowering the price per barrel. Sorry Vlad, it's personal and it's business.

but still won't pay them a fair market rate for the work.
A few months later the husband told me they asked for more than what they expected to get so they would have room to negotiate.
But I had immediately agreed to their initial price which pleasantly surprised them.
He also told me I was their best customer in terms of what they were getting paid.
I told him I may have overshot the target a bit...
And each December when they come for the monthly leaf raking and mulching I give each of them a $100 Christmas bonus which they have come to expect now so it's not really a bonus any more, I guess.
And how do you know what the "market rate" is for yard work in Baton Rouge, Mr. Pompous a-hole? I sure don't know and I live here. A neighbor down the street who has a "regular" lot size told me she pays the same couple $40 for mowing her yard and it takes them about 45 minutes each time.

Just like you lied (several times) by saying I "attacked" your family. Which I proved to you I didn't do by copying and pasting my exact words about feeling sorry for your kids because you were planning on removing them from their school just so you could travel more.
I even offered to ban myself from this board if you could link to a post where I attacked your family. You couldn't do it.

"Serbia will not impose sanctions against Russia and will continue to adhere to its established policy on the issue, President Aleksandar Vucic said, responding to recent comments by Minister for European Affairs Nemanja Starovic, Serbian outlet Dnevnik reported on July 27."
"We will continue with our policy, which was principled and which has proven to be correct so far, which no one liked, neither those in the West nor those in the East," Vucic said, adding that Serbian citizens approve of the policy because it is the "policy of an independent and sovereign state."

You don't feel like you should pay more? You had strong feelings about tipping at a fast food restaurant. You would think you would be more generous toward the actually downtrodden. Oh well.

Lets ask ChatGPT about the rate for the US as a whole to see who is closer. And you said the "the yard and landscaping", not just the yard.
quote:
what is the market rate to mow an acre sized lawn that takes an hour and a half plus landscaping in the US
ChatGPT said:
It depends a lot on region, terrain, obstacles, quality of finish, what “landscaping” means (edging, trimming, blowing, cleanup, etc.), and your local cost of labor/equipment. But I can give you ballpark ranges and a framework so you can estimate.
What “market rate” looks like
Here’s what I found from recent data:
The average cost to mow 1 acre in the U.S. (for a standard, relatively simple job) is around $125 (range ~$50 to $200)
MOWRATOR
Many lawn companies charge $50 to $200 per acre (or $0.01 to $0.06 per sq ft) depending on conditions.
Angi
A more conservative (but realistic) estimate for basic mowing and trimming is $60–$100 per acre for weekly service.
HomeGuide
For plain, flat, open land with short grass, you might see $40–$100 per acre for mowing alone (before factoring extra services or difficult conditions).
Keith's Tractor Mowing
Estimating for your scenario: 1.5 hours + landscaping
You said the job takes 1.5 hours and includes landscaping tasks (so more than just mowing). Let’s walk through an estimate:
Base mowing portion
If the “flat, easy mowing” rate is $50–$100/acre, for your 1 acre that gives $50 to $100 just for the mowing.
Because it's only 1.5 hours, you may want to translate it into an hourly labor rate basis.
Labor rate + overhead / profit
A typical “contractor” or landscaper might charge $40–$100+ per hour depending on skill, region, equipment, and overhead.
For 1.5 hours, that’s $60–$150 just in labor.
Then add equipment wear, fuel, transport, etc.
Landscaping / extra services
Trimming, edging, blowing off, cleanup, maybe flowerbed work, minor weeding — these increase time and cost.
Could add 20–50% (or more) depending on how intensive.
Putting it all together: ballpark for your job
Given 1.5 hours + landscaping, a realistic market rate in many U.S. areas might range $100 to $250 (or more in high-cost regions) for the entire job.
If I had to pick a “typical” mid-U.S. estimate:
$125–$180 — as a “sweet-spot” estimate for a job of that size and additional work
In high labor/real estate markets (e.g. metro areas), you might see $200+

Except you didn't say you were "semi-retired." You said, "I don't even need to work much" after you said your wife "doesn't have to work."
I'm not semi-retired. In the specific scenario you are mentioning I would "semi-retire", or another way to put it would be that I "wouldn't need to work much".
quote:
So keep lying. I've come to expect it.
I can't help it if you think everyone who presents a concept your pea-brain can't comprehend is lying. Semi-retiring is pretty common throughout the US at many different income levels.

Yeah we went over that, I conceded already that you didn't "attack my family" you "used my children to attack me", which isn't much, if any, better.
