That' phrase just feels gross. We are backers. This isn't a partnership.

Yes, their terminology doesn’t seem appropriate, but then I checked Webster’s;

Largest capacity vessel manufacturing fab shop in Houston can do up to 800,000 lbs yet hydrocracker reactors for large refinery weighs 1500 tons each yet there are half dozen of them is a wonderful fairy tale

So who's going to issuing agri credit going forward...? Not the Kremlin, we know that. A better question would be, who will enforce collection after Russian banks are forced to make future loans?

Good news, the anti-TACO has appeared finally.

This is what happens when you ignore four phone calls from POTUS last week. Modi is allergic to decisions. Should be fun.

My favorite Kremlin mouthpiece Vlad Soloyov's eveninng show, has some info about Russian abortion numbers that would give Sir Winston pause. Note the argument against abortion is not in a moral or religious sense but to ensure they have more bodies to feed the meat grinder. There later discussion about NORK troops is funny as an inconvenient truth is spilled.

We aren't partners though. This isn't Iraq, or WW2. We are just showering them with guns and money.

Powerful explosion on Ryazan-Moscow main oil pipeline – sources

VALENTYNA ROMANENKO — Wednesday, 27 August 2025, 11:54

The Ryazan-Moscow main oil pipeline in Ryazan Oblast suffered a powerful explosion on 26 August, disrupting the transport of petroleum products to Moscow.

Source: Ukrainska Pravda sources in Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU)

Details: The pipeline is one of the main sources of petroleum product supplies to Moscow, a source told Ukrainska Pravda.

A large fire broke out after reports appeared in Ryazan local social media groups about a loud explosion on a section of the main oil pipeline. Within a few hours, the authorities had brought emergency service vehicles to the scene.

Local residents say that in the area of the settlement of Bozhatkovo in the Zheleznodorozhny district of the city of Ryazan, law enforcement and repair crews are present and are attempting to tackle the consequences of the explosion and fire.

Since 2018, this trunk line has been repurposed for the supply of petrol by Transneft, which supplies Russian forces.

DIU reported that as a result of the incident, the transportation of petroleum products to Moscow has been disrupted for an indefinite period.

While Webster says we could be, I agree that we don’t consider Ukraine our partner.

The good middle-class and up people of Moscow, St. Petersberg and any other city in Russia - if they can - send their kids to college elsewhere in Europe and tell them not to return if they can help it. I've known some of those kids.

Asset Strip of the Week - and this week they are Western corporations that kept doing business in Russia. Karma, bitches.

If tweet fails to load, click here.

quote:

These two western energy companies #Uniper and #Fortum are strangely quite over the seizure of their assets in Russia, as they were businesses who elected to stay and continue business as usual while Russians tortured, raped, garrotted and murdered Ukrainians in an illegal invasion of a sovereign neighbour.

Their silence is about brand reputation, which trumps human lives - of course.
quote:

President Putin has issued a decree this week, which sees Russia taking control over western assets. On it’s own, this is not unexpected or unusual. But there is a seismic shift, the assets he is seizing are from Western Companies that elected to stay after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 4th, 2022. This marks a shift in Russian’s position towards Western companies who have continued to trade as normal throughout the war.

The two assets seized are power plant owner operators, the Russian division of German energy business Uniper which include 5 power plants in Russia, EBIT income for Uniper jumped massively in 2022 to 26 Bn Rubles. In Germany Uniper ran into massive liquidity problems during COvid and had to be bailed out - and now it has lost is profitable Russian assets.

Also seized is the Russian division and assets of Fortum, the Finnish energy business. Fortum owns 7 thermal power plants in Russia. It also has a joint venture in wind and solar energy in russia producing 3.4Gw. After the invasion of Ukraine - Fortum announced it would no longer provide additional investment in Russia. The decree issued on April 25th established “temporary control” of all assets of the energy firms, and this sets an expectation for other Western businesses who remained in Russia and have continued to trade business as usual. The decree said Russia needed to take retaliatory action to unspecified actions by the US and other unfriendly countries.

The business have been placed under the control of Rosimushchestvo, a federal government property agency. The agency has issued a warning to others and said more foreign firms could find their assets being seized. Coincidentally on Monday, the CEO of Russian state owned bank VTB PAO, said that Russia should consider taking over foreign assets such as Fortum, only returning them if and when sanctions are lifted.

Tass issued a report Tuesday, saying the assets wold be run in accordance of their importance to the Russian economy. The idea was not to deprive the owners of the assets, it meant though that their management and decisions would now be taken by an external appointed Russian team.

Both Uniper and Fortum have expressed an interest to sell their businesses and exit Russia, but Putin has made the sale of foreign businesses subject to a government commission’s approval and in some circumstances, Putins personal approval - especially where the firms are owned by hostile foreign nations. Basically businesses who remained in Russia are now stuck in Russia and there is no sale exit route for them, without Putins approval.

This is a political hijacking, and the businesses being hijacked arguably deserve every ounce of loss coming their way, they were the ones who continued to trade, make profits and pay taxes to a genocidal regime.

The Lubyanka gets my vote. But the Kremlin is fine too. Russia probably has half their air defenses deployed defending Moscow so neither is easy. But would be pretty awesome.

This is the only possible "winning" strategy I see for Ukraine. It's the one area where they can hurt Russia. They can damage refineries faster than Russia can repair them.

I don't know where the tipping point for Russia is on this, but its much closer today than it was 2 years ago.

Good strategy by Ukraine.

If you haven't you should watch the video linked in the post I responded to.

Ukraine's attacks on the Russian energy sector are starting to manifest in a very real way for the Russian public. IF Ukraine continues this strategy, the fuel crisis in Russia will only worsen.

The video mentioned that the fuel crisis had not yet affected Moscow. When it does, the pressure will ratchet up on Putin.
