I mean, the Russians have to hold on to hope considering they claimed in November they would have the town taken by Christmas. What else can they do?

I guess they meant Christmas 2026....

You're right, of course, but since the Russian 'infantry' is untrained kids who don't know how to coordinate, or use a radio, or synchronize movement it's all going to be more suicide runs.

Meanwhile, the Russians continue to make enormous advances in the killing of innocent, irrelevant civilians:

I should have paid more attention to the maps. That Russian penetration was the opposite direction of Prokovsk. Ivan was drunk again.

More delays, more confusion, more last minute changes to the agenda. That's the Russian playbook to a 'T'.

This meeting will accomplish nothing but a lot of feel-good press clippings. The real intention of Putin is to delay and possibly mitigate the sanctions. A cease fire is not on the card, to say nothing about a peace plan.

Trump? All he wants is to get the news cycle off of Epstein. The rest is just more time with the idiot stick.

Another night... well, you know the drill -

Visually, based on the fire locations, it appears that the flames are coming not just from storage tanks but the main units area, which also has the cracking machinery, the most valuable targets. I will work with my team to see whether cracking station was damaged.

And yes, it's yet another Rosneft facility. Are the Ukrainians especially targeting Igor Sechin's company? Well, if there is one guy in Russia that Putin does not want any part of, that would be Sechin. Right now he's got plenty to be pissed off about and that list is growing every day.

Video on the Syzran refinery after the attack. This refinery is rated as 170,000/day input which is about one-third the size of Exxon BR.

Locals heard ten explosions overnight. Debris doin' work.

The US Department of Defense has awarded Lockheed Martin a $3.43 billion contract to produce GMLRS for the US Army, USMC, and FMS [Foreign Military SALES] customers.

The Army's FY24 base budget request was $942 million, in support of 5000 missiles, associated equipment, additional program costs and advanced procurement. The expected Foreign Military SALES buy was 9000 missiles. The actual Army order quantity will be significantly higher due to additional missiles being ordered with reprogrammed replacement funds from the Ukraine Supplementals.
quote:

Lockheed Martin confirms that last month's contract modification was the award to begin production of the Extended Range GMLRS.

The Army had budgeted 120 ER-GMLRS AW missiles in FY2024, but the contract actually provides for up to 240 unspecified ER-GMLRS. 510 ER Unitaries are planned in FY2025.

Once again, for those sitting in the back -

quote:

Currently approved Foreign Military SALES customers for ER-GMLRS include:

Finland
Estonia
Lithuania
Poland
Australia

Again, to do the math, the Army had budgeted 120 ER-GMLRS AW missiles in FY2024, but the contract actually provides for up to 240 unspecified ER-GMLRS. (Plus 510 ER Unitaries are planned in FY2025.)

Finland was the first customer and has a $91 million contract signed, with delivery expected in 2025. So I suspect the other 120 are for their Foreign Military SALES case.

I'm thinking that to save time, the instruction manuals for these Foreign Military SALES customers will be printed in Ukrainian. Just a thought...

The drop in Dec. 2024 is traditional as all Russian banks have an extended closure for the Holidays.

As to the 2025 issues, (other than, you know, like, Muscovites are now realizing the war economy is tanking), we can point to reduced incomes, the rise of black markets, the Internet being shut down constantly and to a lesser extent, the lower interest rates. You can't get cash via the Internet but you can buy food for storage and items of value for future trade or resale.

Is it time to dust off Great-grandma's 'Mystery Meat Stew' recipe from the 1940's? By the way, where's Fido...? Anyone seen him lately?

Explosion at Russian gunpowder plant leaves 5 dead, 20 injured, media reports

August 15, 2025 1:33 pm

An explosion on Aug. 15 destroyed a workshop at the Elastik gunpowder plant in Ryazan Oblast in Russia, killing at least five people and injuring 20, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti and Telegram channels reported.

The blast occurred during the day and was followed by a fire that completely destroyed the gunpowder-producing facility.

Russian officials have not named the cause of the explosion, but preliminary accounts reported by Russian media point to possible safety violations in the workshop.

Local Telegram channels reported that 10 of the 20 injured victims are in serious condition, while some people may still be trapped under debris.

The plant suffered a similar accident in October 2021, when an explosion at a workshop operated by private explosives manufacturer Razryad killed 17 people.
