Lots of people mistakenly give Bill Clinton credit for the things the Republican-led Congress forced him to enact.

Yes, it was called 'triangulation.' It worked like this:
Clinton proposes 'Tax the rich a lot and pay for more programs'.
The GOP in congress vote it down. Result is a better economy.
Clinton to the left: 'I tried to help but Congress stopped me.'
Clinton to everyone: 'The economy went up because of me.'

Anyway to do since 1992? I bet it is even more dramatic given that California voted Bush in 88 and so did Vermont, Illinois, New Jersey, Connecticut - and a few others that I don't think have voted Republican since.

Using presidential elections from 1992 through 2024 (9 elections total):

States that voted the same party in all 9 elections

Always Democratic (15)
- California
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Hawaii
- Illinois
- Maine
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Minnesota
- New Jersey
- New York
- Oregon
- Rhode Island
- Vermont
- Washington

Always Republican (13)
- Alabama
- Alaska
- Idaho
- Kansas
- Mississippi
- Nebraska
- North Dakota
- Oklahoma
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Texas
- Utah
- Wyoming

That is:
- 28 states total
- or 29 jurisdictions including Washington, D.C.

States that voted the same party in 8 of the 9 elections (only one exception)

Mostly Democratic (1 Republican vote)
- Nevada (2004)
- New Hampshire (2000)
- New Mexico (2004)
- Pennsylvania (2016)
- Virginia (2004)
- Wisconsin (2016)

Mostly Republican (1 Democratic vote)
- Arizona (2020)
- Georgia (2020)
- Indiana (2008)
- Kentucky (1996)
- Louisiana (1996)
- Montana (1992)
- North Carolina (2008)
- Tennessee (1996)
- West Virginia (1996)

That is:
- 15 additional states

Combined result from 1992–2024:
- 43 states voted for the same party in at least 8 of the last 9 presidential elections
- Including D.C., that becomes 44 jurisdictions

In retrospect, I'm not so sure that the country had completely gotten over the Vietnam fatigue in 1976, and had it not been for the Watergate blow up I think it's entirely possible that the Republicans would have had another four year White House term with Reagan winning the Republican primary that year, or possibly Nelson Rockefeller.

(Of course, I'm the kid who was six years old and sat down in the floor and cried when Nixon resigned, so what do I know?)

This map is fake news. I have been assured many times that the north and the south switched parties in the 1960's after the passage of the civil rights act. There is no way the south was still voting Democratic in 1976

You were told correctly. The Civil Rights Act passed in 1964. And as you can see the Republicans started rebelling.

In 1968, they had someone running who was against integration so he won the southern vote.

In 1972, George Wallace was shot otherwise, he would've won the south again. Southern Democrats didn't like the new "hippy" nominee so they stuck with the devil they knew.

And in 1976, as you seen already, the Democrats returned to "normal" and elected Jimmy Carter. Then 1980 came around and the Republican party changed for good after Reagan.

I’m going 1996, but 2000 would have had some lingering dem posters as well.

I think this is fair. The Dem party at that time would be center right today.

2024. Trump is a moderate and has support from the middle. The Democrats have moved so far Left that it’s hard to see that.
looking at his polling numbers and and how he stands with independence he really has no support left minus maga hard core believers. He’s gonna go down as one of the least popular presidents in history. Which is an accomplishment in itself.

That technically should be Biden holding that record, but Democrats are more hive-minded.

A lot of time left on the clock, and there is a large core of Trump supporters that will NEVER abandon him, more so than any president since probably Reagan.

When they left office:

- Nixon: 24%
- Truman: 32%
- Carter: 34%
- George W Bush: 34%
- Trump 1: 34%

It was

Dixiecrats dominated the South.

Carter = Southern = POTUS

Clinton = Southern = POTUS

The swing began when Roger Ailes told Nixon he could get him the win after his loss to Kennedy. Ailies took incumbent Democratic Senator out and replaced him with Mitch the Turtle. 1980 election was the swing election with Ronnie that focused on fear one solutions. Culmination was Shrub vs Gore.

Do you realize it was a Fox News report that nearly torpedoed George Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign?

I know why the change towards the right was so dramatic in Tennessee - it largely centered on powers that be (including a Republican governor) trying to institute an income tax, although there were a few other issues. Don't know so much about Louisiana.

Gore was hostile to oil. Kentucky was another blue state that turned red, thanks to D hostility to tobacco.

Gore also didn't give off the vibe of a gool ol boy like WJC, so there was no "one of us" vote.

Yes , when Fox came along we realized we had only been getting the left side of the story . Left wing Rupert Murdoch realized 50 percent of the country was left out of news and decided he could make some money on the side that had been ignored

And 20 years later, faux News had been completely bought by big pharma money and became the RINO NeoCon Controlled Opposition network of the masses.
