Toddy,

You’ve always been a good dude and that’s why I’ve never ripped on you on here. We joined this site at the same time when things were simpler and we largely discussed football. I can never completely understand but I feel like I am aware how sexual orientation can lead to a strong sense of obligation to the Democratic Party so I just let it go.

Fact is times have changed and I believe you and I both know this isn’t very important to most people anymore. People have moved on. It’s good to see you put other priorities first when a real enemy is forming.

Hope you’re doing well and have a nice weekend

The next day saw released a long and ridiculous statement about this in which they tried to turn this into being "deceived" because they weren't given notice the university was actually following their recommendations and the "student stakeholders" weren't included or some bullshite. It just further confirmed how devoid of character and disingenuous they all are. Trash.

Man this really pisses me off. They're afraid to stand behind what they did and the "student stakeholders" weren't included? Well I don't guess they included many alumni either.

Every passing month I feel better and better about not giving them a dime.

Yeah, except Toddy's never been a troll. He's started threads which he knew would ignite a 5-Alarm fire, for sure, but that's different. I can spot a troll when I encounter one as well as anybody here, and Toddy has far too much character and intelligence to have any interest in being a troll.

Toddy =/= boosie

PS - One of these days I would like to revisit the subject of one Barack Hussein Obama with Toddy, though. It has always been my contention that the 8 years of that man were not only unbelievably divisive in their own right, but those years laid the groundwork for what we are seeing now.

I'd look forward to having a discussion with Toddy regarding whether or not any of his views towards Obama have changed.

I didn't even know that there was a confederate statue in the square -- I mean we go, we eat, we shop and I just never paid attention. Guess she'll be wanting that one moved as well -- at least she's for relocation and not destruction.

It and the one on campus are actually compliments of one another. Each of them is a soldier holding his hand above his brow to block the sunlight as they look off into the distance. They are constructed so as they are looking at each other at the same time even though they are around 2 miles apart

I hope when they move the on campus one to the cemetery they will keep them looking at each other but it will probably make the one at the cemetery look shitty as he would be oriented weirdly with the graveyard

These people are so woefully ignorant of history they didn't even know or understand the origins or to whom it was erected.

Well some of these protestors have defaced or destroyed monuments\statues to absolutists. Hell they even destroyed a statue of Fredrick Douglass.

Glad you have seen the light.

Doesn't one look east and the one of the Square look south?

I called that and my parents thought I was crazy at the time when I said these lunatics would take down a statue of Douglass. This isn't about race: it's about erasing our liberty and freedom, and there probably isn't a better example than Frederick Douglass in American history. That's why they tore down his statue.

You’re right. The one on campus looks towards the one on the square who is looking south

TBH, it's been slowly simmering in me for a while as I watched my beloved alma mater have it's identity slowly and surely in incremental steps, destroyed. When these freaks started whining about the very thing they demanded (monument relocation) and it unbelievably coincides with the BLM/Antifa bullshite, it was impossible to deny what is happening. This is NOT about confederate statues. This is about destroying this nation. I will not stop fighting this bullshite now until I breathe my last breath. Yes, I'm serious.

Hear, hear.

I’m the same way. Left leaning moderate for years. I’m horrified at the current state of what it means to be a “liberal.” The march through the institutions must be stopped. This bullshite has gone too far and needs to be eradicated from American way of life.

All I can do is "discuss" when she brings these things up -- my plan is to pray her through these next 3 years at OM, including next semester when she's taking the required "Diversity" course which will be southern studies. I'm thinking I want to read some of what will be her required reading mainly for my own curiosity.

Thank you for sharing this.

I have no doubt that more than a few on the ASB were against relocation. But they feel pressured by certain faculty (especially HISTORY and SOUTHERN STUDIES majors). I am in awe of the young Kappa Sigma on the fraternity council who was the lone vote against relocation. The pressure and the smug shaming hurled at him by the Daily Mississippian and others must have been hard to endure. History will vindicate him for not bowing to the mob for showing such character and resolve. (and no doubt will be rewarded by alumni with job offers after graduation) And let's be clear, they only used the ASB and other groups to make it appear there is widespread support. Nothing could be further from the truth Alumni Association also released a statement saying it was in support when NO ONE even contacted the members. All that did was increase the number of people not renewing and insured this year's decline in numbers surpassed last year's decline. . I've spoken with parents whose kids are on the ASB about their kids feeling pressure to support relocation. In fact, the President of the ASB, who is black, is quoted in an article saying this didn't bother him as he had never thought about it "until it was explained " that "this is troublesome and should go". I can assure you if the students had voted the other way, it would have made no difference. When the campus-wide vote was held concerning the mascot, 95% of the student body voted for Colonel Reb and the administration just ignored it.

I really feel sorry for your daughter as she will never understand and experience Ole Miss when it was Ole Miss. The school and the mystique it engendered was based upon its devotion to traditions, loyal reverence of them, and understanding and respecting those who came before us. It was just the Southerness of it all and unabashed pride of being there. It was a school, where because of that loyalty and unshakeable dedication, the alumni association for years, could boast of having the highest % percentage of dues-paying alumni of any school in the nation. It was the little things like the student body always filling up the stadium, good season or bad, and never leaving "because it was too hot". The boys in their coats and ties ( a tradition that survived for decades after the counter culturalists wiped that out the other big Southern state schools. I could go on and on. You should tell your daughter if she cares to learn about what made that school so great, she should make an attempt to learn it's history. Learn who saved and scrimped, to put that monument up. The faculty, the dead boy's parents. Indeed some of her sorority sisters of long ago if shes a DG, Chi O, and a few others. And finally, you should let her know she will be complicit in seeing the final nails driven into int's coffin because of her support of those intent to destroy it. One of their leaders has already tweeted the "Rebels" nickname will be the next thing to be attacked and they no doubt will succeed if she and "her friends" sit idly by and allow it to happen.

My mom is from Mississippi and LOVES Ole Miss. Deifies the place and has been pushing me to send my daughter there ("she would learn to be a true Southern lady and would meet a nice young gentleman"). I have always been an LSU fan, but have appreciated OM and what it represented.

Goddamned shame.

It’s not totally dead in that regard but man it is heading there quick

I was freshman in 09 and it was more or less the typical OM experience but it has changed a lot since

Many people aren't aware of this but there wasn't a plan to put one at the university. The one being removed from the Circle had been intended for the Square. Some of the prominent ladies of Oxford had been heavily involved in raising funds for it, especially William Falkner's mother had been insistent this was to located on the Square. When the sculpture arrived earlier and unexpectantly) while she was out of town, some of the others (social frenemies ? lol) took it on themselves to have it placed on campus. When she arrived, by train, back in town, a few weeks later, she was FURIOUS about this and went on a marathon fundraising campaign to secure funds for a second one, which is now on the Courthouse Square. Speaking of Falkner, him and his legacy now have the attention of the Marxists. Oxford Aware has been sending out tweets that he needs to be canceled because of his racism (never knew about that) his alcoholism, and his denigrating of females. It will not surprise me in the least to wake one day and see his tombstone has been destroyed or Rowan Oak has gone up in flames.
