Yes. Hollow points are expensive.

If you ever get a handgun or rifle, and you get yourself some cheap bulk rounds to use up at the range, they'll be full metal jackets. Most handgun/rifle ammo out there is full metal jacket. It's the common standard everyday round.

As someone here pointed out, Stanley Kubrick saw it on a shell casing one time and he thought it sounded cool so he named his movie that. So now it's just something that kinda sounds scary and badass in the ignorant public consciousness. That's literally the only reason to bring it up

Exactly. No casual user is buying FMJ rounds thinking oh yeah this will penetrate stuff better. It’s a distinction without being a difference.
Zero relevance.

I had rough 3,200 rounds of .223 FMJ up until the unfortunate marine mishap.

Wasn't it testified that kyle didn't load the gun? If so, I doubt he had any idea what ammo he was shooting.

They were the 'high caliber' kind too!

I guess the number 223 confuses them since it's better than 9, 40, or 45.

At close range, you can use plastic bullets, and you are dead!

A little more:

Mandated by the Geneva Convention of 1922, the purpose of enclosing bullets with full metal jackets was to reduce combat fatalities. The bullets were designed to pass through bodies and, if no major organs were struck, only to wound the victim

KR was following the rules more than the people throwing Molotov cocktails.

How did he find such an exotic scary round???

Probably easier to find than a "good" one. I have several hundred.

ETA - just did a quick search: 1000 rounds .223 FMJ - $369

It’s like these idiots played call of duty with the FMJ perk and assumed it increases damage in real life too ??

Good thing he couldn't score those armor piercing, incendiary, DNA tracking .223 rounds that shoot around corners....

They're seriously saying this? They've only been in use since the 19th century.

Comes from a war movie, so must be super scary!!
I remember when the film was first released, watching a young Vince d’Onofrio and wondering why he was making such a big deal about such mundane ammo.

But Private Pyle did do a fairly impressive job of making FMJ seem both extremely dangerous and borderline creepy.

Little-known fact. Vince was a skinny guy. He had to gain 70-pounds to play Private Pyle

I actually saw, for the 15 seconds I switched to fox the other night, Nancy Grace pose the quesiton "what was this kid doing with basically a machine gun mowing down people on the streets of Kenosha?"

Reaffirmed why I don't watch them anymore.
