He just wants to try to appoint someone. He has no power to demand anything at all.
He can’t according to Kentucky law. He can call a special election.

As has been stated multiple times, he has already said he will try to appoint someone in an attempt to force the GOP to sue and galvanize state Democrats for the upcoming election. LINK

“I might make some news right here,” he teased on Al Sharpton’s show Sunday — before pointing to a Kentucky constitutional provision he says lets him “appoint all state officers” when a vacancy hits — the GOP’s 2024 special-election law be damned. If the seat opens, the Democratic governor may simply name a successor and dare Republicans to sue. State Rep. Josh Calloway is already warning him off, and one name floating for the pick, per the Washington Times: Charles Booker — the Democrat already running for the seat.
ETA: I don't know what's going on with Mitch McConnel, but he absolutely should not resign.

If Mitch is incapacitated, he absolutely should resign. His seat will be filled in the upcoming election in accordance with law. The governor does not and cannot make any appointments.

It's amazing. You responded to a direct quote from the governor saying he will make an appointment by claiming he won't.
Mitch McConnel absolutely should not step down and it is not in the best interests of anyone but Democrats for him to do so.

Maybe so, but if it is that McConnell is incapacitated and thune and Trump know this.....and they know something, this is a problem. I suspect that the governor also knows. He's in a rehab hospital in DC and before that in either GW or Bethesda. Someone important knows all the details.

He’s been popping off and saying that but it would take months in court even if he prevailed.

This should have already happened.

By law.
This law is untested in court and andy likes to sue. andy's position is that the state constitution gives him authority.
The republicans contend that his authority does not extend beyond state offices according to the state constitution. That the 2024 state law clarifies and addresses federal office vacanies.
andy will not initiate a special election. He's going straight to court or he will just appoint the Dem commie that's running in the general and let the republicans sue him.
Deadlines aren't going to mean anything this time.
By the way, our state supreme court is shite. They allowed all of andy's mandates through the first year of covid.
KY State Constitution Section 152 Vacancies

Don't care. The last thing we should want is for Kentucky's governor to appoint his replacement, as he has already said he will do.

Yeah....it will take awhile before an aid gets this letter to the main staff. Probably August 5th.

Trump has no part in this. Thune, yeah, it’s one his members. It’s pretty pathetic thune and Kentucky congressional members haven’t went to see Mitch in the first place. He may be home now but he was in a local hospital.

Why would they go to see a corpse before the funeral?
