Well.... I'll book my flight!

quote:

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed on Sunday that the Trump administration is “looking at” purchasing Greenland following reports of its interest last week.

“Denmark owns Greenland. Denmark is an ally. Greenland is a strategic place. They’ve got a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow told guest host Dana Perino on "Fox News Sunday."

“The president, who knows a thing or two about buying real estate, wants to take a look,” he added.

Since this was first mentioned a few days ago, I've wondered but haven't found out, what are the politics of Greenland?

Given that Denmark is at least semi-socialist, "I don't think I'm gonna like it." (Aka Rufuss from the comic strip 'GASOLINE ALLEY" of 50 - 60 years ago.)

The last thing we would need is another territory (PR says hello) the dems push for statehood just to get 2 more dem senators, and complete control of congress.

This could be why this was started, even though carrying through might/would be? bad for control of congress.

I wonder what the numbers look like in a deal like that. Also how will we finance it?

There is only something like 50,000 residents mostly indigenous people. Basically an administrative state of Denmark

836,330 sq miles. If the wikipedia stats are correct... then it's a pretty good sized piece of land.

Population is low. Could be a very nice place to build a new life.

Thanks. Any idea if they would be potential conservative or liberal voters?

Given that they have probably been indoctrinated by Denmark, my guess is liberal. Hence, my reservations. If liberal, I wouldn't want them even close to us. Dems would immediately start the "let them vote" pitch.

Denmark is obviously a small country. I read that something like 50% of their annual budget is going to support Greenland. I think the move would be not to buy it but for Greenland to be a U.S. territory or protectorate to keep Russia and China out.

We could create a new Utopia for socialist Dems, all of them, in one big state. It would be glorious.

Bamarep found something on Twitter from July that indicates there might be a VIP detainee in the brig at Thule AFB.

Almost certainly the correct reason for Trump's interest in Greenland.

We could trade them Puerto Rico for it. They would have a warm place to vacay then.
