Good. I don't get what he was thinking. He needs to be in the Senate.

He’s 36 and he is running. Very solid candidate as well IMO. You want a lifer in Louisiana politics? Then you will get more of the same. At least Nelson hasn’t been corrupted yet and still cares about getting things done. He also has a decent amount of money behind him so I think you might be surprised come election time.

Yeah, old people don’t have the energy for structural change, which is why people always can’t wait to replace the old old guy with their new old guy. Rinse. Repeat.
Desantis was elected governor at 40. This is our chance to get smart, energetic leadership that understands he’s turning around a battleship, not a jet ski.
He’s an engineer, so he solves problems for a living, not to mention he’s an attorney, so he knows where to look to solve the problems most efficiently in government. This also means he doesn’t rubber stamp legislation from a lobbyist.
Havoc, do yourself a favor and do some research about what he’s done in the legislature around education and tax reform. Here’s a start.
He understands that the systemic changes that our government needs can’t be done immediately, and will need to be generational changes.

Get out of here with that garbage. He was an engineering officer in the State department. That’s like saying a JAG or US Attorney isn’t a real job.

Kennedy never seriously considered it.
He just loved the undivided attention the issue gave him for 9 weeks.

Jesus Christ.
-He is running. Spoke to him personally about it. Not a brag, he is pretty open about it.
-He is a very smart, capable person. He has actually dug deep into the issues and has a plan to improve Louisiana.
-However, given that Louisiana has a lot of low information voters, yeah, he probably has little chance.

Bad take. He’s 36-38 years old. Eagle Scout, has a degree in bio engineering and a JD.
I don’t know him personally but I’d much rather a young, un-soured guy than a life-long political gamer like these other options mentioned…

I like him. However, I’m afraid that if he, Schroder and Hewitt (all whom I think would be great) all run, then neither will have a shot to make the runoff. They all represent options for conservative voters who want a conservative not named Jeff Landry (since the above three have actually dug, studied and pushed for real solutions to real state government specific issues in the past).

Yep.

Ahh..so you know nothing about Richard Nelson.
Noted.

If Nelson runs, I’m backing him, might even volunteer for his campaign. He’s got bigger and bolder ideas for actual status quo change than any of the other candidates. I don’t know about his executive experience, but his willingness to take on the various cartels and government-sponsored rackets in this state is commendable.
Landry is a fighter against progressive lunacy, but he’s not a competent administrator and he brings mountains of baggage. We could do better and worse.
Nunguesser is literally the worst case candidate in every conceivable way. He’s like JBE…but if JBE was a complete moron rather than just someone with opposing political views.
Schroeder is a middling candidate. He’s not particularly interesting, no major skeletons, no controversial policy planks, etc. I am looking forward hearing more from him since no Kennedy makes his candidacy likely.

While I’m surprised at this, good for him.
If he is running, he likely has my vote.
For me it’s him, Hewitt, Landry, Schroeder, then Nungesser.

Landry probably could be competent. It’s just that he’s too polarizing to win.
Why? Will Landry not get the vaxxed and boosted support?
Posted on 1/5/23 at 11:30 am to GumboPot
He will likely not get the vote of voters that can see through his buzzwords to see that there are no real substantive plans to improve anything other than Jeff Landry's profile on a national stage.

This Nelson guy needs to campaign on cutting state spending and not “do away with the state income tax and find the revenue elsewhere”. Cut spending, stop government growth.
Posted on 1/5/23 at 12:43 pm to White Bear
He wants to do away with most tax credits is a start. One important part of the tax reform would be keeping local taxes local. De-bloat the state oversight on local projects.

I’ve known Schroeder for a long time and was very impressed with how he handled past hot button issues like common core. Watched him handle a roomful of agitated and even crazy parents with respect and bearing during a town hall meeting on it. Good experience, solid principles and policies, and no baggage puts him at the top of my list.
Fwiw, I like Nelson but wouldn’t vote for someone so green for the highest elected office in the state.
