Summer break starting early

quote:

Louisiana public school superintendents Wednesday asked Gov. John Bel Edwards to extend his schools closure order through the end of the academic year because of the coronavirus.

The request significantly boosts chances that classrooms will remain locked for nearly 720,000 public school students, and that the school year will have effectively ended on March 13.

quote:

Most schools are set to finish the 2019-20 school year around the third week of May, which has prompted speculation for days that classes are unlikely to resume for such a short period.

quote:

The governor's office said Wednesday evening it is reviewing the superintendents' message.

I ain’t going to lie, it’s nice.

The best part is watching everyone complain on social media about having to watch their badass kids all day.

A few years ago, didn't we have multiple closed days due to weather; so they added days to the end of the school year and extended school days.

Why is that not an option now? To many days to add?

They have extra days set aside for hurricanes and other weather related issues. They could easily extend the school year.

So realize that teachers are not teaching the kids in school.

If education was really the priority that politicians say it is, then they would find a way to make sure the kids made up the missed days.

The kids in about 50 parishes should have never dismissed. This was a follow the leader moment starting in China and all the way across the planet. Democratic Governors are the easiest to say we’ll if he’s doing it then I will to. JBE is an idiot. Schools should be in session May 4th - June 4th. I have kids in private school and public and the public schools have done nothing to continue my oldest kids education. It’s been quite pathetic. They say it’s because some can’t afford the internet so they can’t do virtual learning.

Might want to do some research before spouting off. My wife is a special ed teacher, has been putting in 8 hour days, has to provide activities to all her students daily, turn in lesson plans, and have 30 minute check ins with each student and parent daily.

This is no vacation.

Why don't they just go teach at the daycares. They have been safe this whole time.

And though we recently had two weeks of spring break...and now have teachers "checking their emails throughout the day" ( to see if we parents have any questions as our kids are now homeschooled)..."the school board has decided to maintain the prior district holiday/school closure schedule" ...so teachers will be off this Friday. Then also have a "teacher planning day" in two weeks

Is LA not doing online education? Most of us here in KY are delivering new content online and holding Google Meets and such. It’s not equivalent to in-school education, but it’s something.
