I just don't get the point you're making. Even if crossings were to drop to 0 today and remain there, it would still take years to process the amnesty claims. Now, the vast majority of those people would be deported, but they're entitled to due process.

It kind of has been, but they've just gotten smarter about it. The internet and social media make it easy to spread the information.
Even if we figure out a way to legally mass deport them, most will just come back.
The only way to stop the illegal border crossings is to figure out a way to raise the SOL in Central America. We've seen this works with Mexico itself.

Or build a wall and deny asylum claims that everybody knows are specious at the border. If lawyers have mucked up the system to the point that's not possible, change the law.
Americans don't need to raise the standard of living for every other country before we can decide who to let into the US and who not to.

Make the argument for the US to do heavy lifting in economically developing all sorts of countries because it's mutually beneficial. That's fine, and done the right way it's also accurate.
It should have nothing to do with the US deciding how many and which immigrants are allowed into the country.
