Alright, but if you're a skeptic and everything in this category makes you think of "they'll grant us as liberators!" you see:

- A few months ago the DNI pouring water on the Iran threat (again, from that person's perspective).

- Fairly quiet, perhaps outwardly productive negotiations with Iran in the intervening months

- Ramped up posturing from Israel, along with a lot of messaging from the US that this is Israel's battle and we aren't involved

- Within 72 hours, that tone switches to war footing, and it coincides with Bibi going on TV and doing a Zelensky act

I'm not necessarily opposed to what is being discussed, but I also don't fault people for being wary.

NOW, I personally believe the US did not view Iran's nuclear program as a super-imminent threat a week ago. I still don't think we do. I think Israel acted with our quiet blessing, has done mostly what they can do, and Trump is being told there will never be a more opportune time to eliminate this saga once and for all. And that's probably true.

But it's going to be sold to us like Iran is days away from a nuclear weapon they'll immediately use on Israel - which is fiction.

Honestly I can't give you an answer on the DNI statement. It could be that with Iran bringing these new centrifuges online within the last month or so that made them change their mind about what Iran was doing. I'm not gonna say they were 100% beyond a reasonable doubt producing a nuke, but the science behind what they were doing strongly suggests they were and definitely shows they had the capability too.

Why does anyone want the ability to produce nuclear weapons?

Maybe to deter a preemptive attack by another nation?

I listened to a good podcast (Honestly w/ Bari Weiss - Naftali Bennett and Michael Oren) talking about this accepted fact - that they have stepped up their enrichment capabilities and pace at an exponential rate.

They are 100% on route to build weapons. I don't see how anyone would debate that at this point.

Yeah, my position is that acting against Iran is reasonable. Opposition to it is also pretty reasonable.

But I think the WH is concerned of the optics of being cornered on it by Israel's actions. In other words, Israel started this and got it to a point where it's ripe to be permanently destroyed, leaving the US in a position where it feels pressure to help finish the job.

So I think the messaging is going to be a mess.

If my version is correct, then I think that's what we should be saying "Israel, our ally, chose not to live under the threat of Iran that could develop a weapon in mere months with the increased enrichment activity. They acted unilaterally to halt the threat, and they've asked for our help to ensure that this thread doesn't resurface in 2 or 5 or 10 years. We're not going to kick the can on this again to your children. So we're going to help."

I have no doubt that Iran would love to have a nuclear weapon

I was just led to believe that they were so scared of Trump that they would stop thei progression and make a deal to cooperate with us.

I was wrong and I admit it. They evidently don’t give a crap about Trump or the US.

My guess is that it isn't black and white for the regime either.

They want to stay in power. I think whether or not actually achieving a weapon helps with that is something that they probably waver on daily.

Iran has been able to stave off regime change for decades on the threat of being close to the bomb. I think that's their preference, TBH. They know if they get it, or are imminently about to, they may face massive intervention. In contrast, if the threat is non-existent, they're equally vulnerable.

Dude

You're very obsessed with JB retweeting that guy

I get it, JB is terrible, but I don't think this board in particular is going to be put off by an ethno-nationalist...

Exactly. It's one thing to say I do not want another endless war and am against it. But more is happening here.
