...that place is a cess pool.

I own a heavy equipment dealership. I am dragging my company into the world of social media as a marketing tool. I hold my nose doing it, but FB and Google are highly effective at generating traffic and inquiries. My challenge is to get the troops on board and helping to spread the virus of our messages. Heavy equipment guys can be pretty old school, so just getting them to sign up for accounts is already an uphill thing.

All that to say that the people who spend the most time on platforms like Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc. are definitely skewed toward the "less industrious" types. Working people just don't have time.

No new insight there, but this imbalance has to skew the perception of "the people", right? The most vocal and and "activist" demographics are on these platforms, being inundated with an leftist echo chamber.

The question is, will this get better, or worse? Do most people grow out of it, or do they continue down the hole?

You are having a bunch of good ole boys signing up for reddit? What is the strategy behind that exactly?

Don't expose nice people to Reddit politics without a plan.

I'm not sure. I think social media enables people with radical views to find each other and undermines development of social skills. On the other hand, it also checks the power and influence of traditional media.

It's definitely a mixed bag.

No, no. I was unclear. I want them on FB to participate in various groups that talk about the products and markets we are in.

The segue is just that working people IN GENERAL are not on these platforms to the degree the liberal arts baristas of the world are.

And, calling my guys "bumpkins" is uncalled for. Show me a hayseed that can troubleshoot hydraulics and controls.

Reddit was the reason I didn't even look at this board the first couple of years I had an account. I finally decided to check this board out to see its reaction to Trump announcing his candidacy and was very surprised how right leaning it is compared to most of the interwebs. We are very lucky to have a place like this.

Trust me. I meant it as a compliment.

Since it came off as less than that, I'll rephrase it.

Something about the format of reddit bothers me.

Reddit is the worlds largest gathering of fat, fedora wearing neck beards ever gathered in one basement.

Yeah because one person represents millions of people. Yes there are neckbeard subs like r/incels which was banned. Reddit is definitely left leaning and most neckbeards skew to the right.

On the topic of politics, it’s not that hard to avoid it. I just unsubscribe from any politically related subs because I know the average user will be left leaning.

Bumpkin: an unsophisticated or socially awkward person from the countryside.

How many you wanna meet? I know people who can barely read that can rebuild a skidder, knuckleboom or even a sawmill.

I have never been on Reddit. Would it be worth starting an account?

I would recommend not putting anyone on social media, in the name of your company, who isn't savvy in the ways of social media. That's a recipe for disaster in my experience.

After reading this thread, I will only say this:

I will take a "bumpkin" who knows how to drive a stick, change a flat, fix things in a time of crisis with duct tape if need be and fire a weapon responsibly over some sniveling liberal democrat douchebag barista at starbucks who is perpetually angry and feels entitled because they paid 100K for a pussy liberal gender studies degree and makes 9.50 an hour. There is no smart phone app for survival in bad times.......
