NEWS-STAR: Julia Letlow, widow of Rep.-elect Luke Letlow, will run for Congress

quote:

Julia Letlow, the widow of U.S. Rep.-elect Luke Letlow, will run for the 5th Congressional District seat her husband was unable to fill because of his COVID-19 death Dec. 29.

“Everything in my life and in my marriage has prepared me for this moment," she said in a statement. "My motivation is the passion Luke and I both shared: to better this region that we called home and to leave it a better place for our children and future generations.

"I am running to continue the mission Luke started — to stand up for our Christian values, to fight for our rural agricultural communities and to deliver real results to move our state forward.’’
quote:

Gov. John Bel Edwards has called a special election on March 20 to fill the seat, which came open after former Congressman Ralph Abraham, R-Alto, didn't seek reelection to honor a three-term limit pledge. Qualifying for the election is Jan. 20-22.

Luke Letlow, 41, who had served as Abraham's chief of staff, died Dec. 29 from COVID-19 complications at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport. He would have been sworn into office Jan. 3.

There were several names of people interested in running for the position, but I have to believe all will bow out now that she has announced. Only thing I worry about is how she will have time to do the job with two very young children. I guess she will work that out.

She is an incredible person. I knew Julia back in my college days. She currently works for ULM and is in the same office as my sister.

This district will be exceptionally represented with Julia Letlow representing them.

The gross Democrat beast woman who ran in November is running again
quote:

Democrat Sandra "Candy" Christophe of Alexandria, who finished third in the Nov. 3 primary election and missed the Dec. 5 runoff election by fewer than 500 votes, announced last week she will run again.

“After much prayer, I do not feel relieved of my assignment to serve District 5 as its next U.S. Congressional Representative,” Christophe, a small business owner, said in her official announcement statement. “When elected, I will be an advocate for all and accessible to all.”

The man who won died and his wife has a 100% chance of winning. It's an R+15 district. What a dumb count.

Do not let your guard down. POTUS and senate elections should’ve shown you that.

I'm happy for her since she will obviously be elected but I feel for the children. They just lost their dad and now their mom will always be in Washington when they need her the most. Maybe grandparents are going to step in a lot to help out, I don't know.

Glad the seat will remain red, though.

If Lance Harris runs this is far from a shoe in. Voter turnout will be extremely low which always hurts the favorite. I will be proud to give Julia my vote, however it will be closer than most of you think.

I think the world of the Letlow family, but I always think it's incredibly foolish to anoint/appoint a spouse or child to the seat of a decedent.

That said, I'd rather vote for her over the presumed alternatives.

Terrible idea. Her kids just lost their father and I would think they will need their mom now more than ever. As a parent, it doesn’t seem like she’s thinking clearly. Is it really a good idea for her to run for Congress right this minute?

Kudos to her for her commitment to the GOP and her husband, but why do I get the feeling if everyone in LA voted GOP, she is still going to lose.
The dems treachery at the presidential level has been rubber stamped by the courts for future elections.

I wish Abraham would continue in congress. But I respect the term limit decision. I will be voting for her.
