John Bel addressed the convention in New Orleans saying he has much in common with them. LINK
I wonder if anyone mentioned to the Governor that Alec has Louisiana ranked the worst state in the USA for lawsuits.
LINK
JBE lives to get a class action suit against oil companies on behalf of the state that he can farm our on contingency to his buddies.

I'd love for these generic groups to define what "fair and reasonable" is.

It may be anecdotal but when you can't go a few hundred feet on I-10 and I-12 and city streets without seeing some ambulance chaser's billboard and ads slapped on a public bus, you know this state is corrupt and rotten to the core as a judicial hell hole that sucks for a pro growth business climate.
Cue the lawyers that call themselves conservative to come in this thread to hem and haw about it and then shite on Louisiana in other threads for being corrupt.

Turns out, no, you're not.

Yeah, go ahead and take shots...but when it's your arse in the ambulance, or your wife or kid, you'll sing a different tune.

Personally, I’m not looking to treat injuries to my wife or kids as a lottery ticket. How many other states give elected judges discretion to award up to $50k without the bs filter of a jury? No wonder our premiums are so high, people get more money paid out in Louisiana than most other states for similar injuries/treatment.

Sounds like your beef is with lawyer advertising.

We need loser pay like the Commonwealth countries.

You've had that explained to you multiple times on this board. Auto mills do not take cases where liability is a question.

That’s actually not true at all. The same injuries are worth more in most other states

Louisiana is 26th in rate of uninsured motorist.
Louisiana is too 5 for rates of vehicle insurance.
Louisiana is number 1 in rates of litigation after an accident. On average just under 3/10 accidents go to court. In Louisiana over 7/10 end up in court. This is fricking ridiculous.
Driving is a risk. But when every single wreck ends up wih an unverifiable/undetectable soft tissue injury that “requires” years of therapy and tens of thousands of dollars in compensation, it goes from a risk to a racket. Injury lawyers like yourself make it so and get filthy rich doing so

quote:Wrong. Are you an insurance industry attorney? Apparently not. Louisiana is one of the worst states for insurance companies for a number of reasons, including an elected judiciary and the $50,000 jury threshold as well as corrupt doctors. Educate yourself before posting.

When you've set up an entire industry whereby you can turn any minor fender bender into a $500k+ case if you happen upon a policy that can pay it, why would you need to?

Holy shite Batman!
I agree with an I B Freeman post!
I need to schedule a full body MRI, something is terribly wrong!

If company executives would be thrown in jail for the rotten shite they push, there might not be such a use for the civil justice system. Until that happens, these companies need to pay for screwing people.

The lawyers are forced to sue because we have Napoleon laws

Citizens are better protected with a loser pay system with chancery courts of judge panels instead of juries.
First off regardless of the size of the claim a plaintiff's cost to pursue the case will be paid. Today as so many point out, small claims of the poor get no representation. Got a $1500 claim in car wreck with no injuries? good luck trying to get a lawyer to take that on contingency. Under loser pay if you spent $100000 in lawyer fees collecting that $1500 your lawyer would be paid.
Second off our current system does nothing to protect people who have insurance or the wealth to pay a claim from poor plaintiffs. They can lie, commit fraud or whatever with no civil consequences because they have nothing at stake.
