Joe backtracking on campaign promise. Allows drilling on public lands.

Joe Biden campaigned for president on a promise to end new oil and gas development on public lands. This week, his administration opened lands across the West to new leasing and proposed doing the same offshore.

This is just a show. While he makes a big stink of drilling on public lands, his alphabet soup agencies will slow-walk the permits and the banks will get scared and decline to finance.
Do not be confused, Biden and the D machine are still fully at war with petroleum and consumers.

But will permits be issued?
You can lease all the land you want, if you don’t have the permits to drill, you’re not doing shite…
It’s like owning land and you want to build a house on it. If you can’t get a permit to build, you ain’t getting’ no house…
Ever notice when the Potatus talks about oil companies having all the leases, but never talks about the permits…

About 7 months late

Well, France of all places has told potatus that asking SA & opec for more oil production is a no go.
He’s got to do something. And show gestures won’t produce anything…

This is good. Don’t fight it guys.

Likely all theater. They may issue exploration permits, but the odds on actually getting a drilling/production permit are pretty low.

Probably no oil there or uneconomical to drill it.
It’s all for show.

So how does potato get gas prices down. And measurably down before midterms?
That’s all that matters to him.

Well, better late than never, but this is probably a hollow gesture. There is an entire package of things that have to be unpacked to make a real difference in energy prices.
On top of that, there is always lead time (why I say, better late than never) so opening up drilling today means more energy years from now in many cases.

He's going to do a rebate/stimulus gimmick. It is the only trick D.C. has left in its bag.
(ETA: And the stupid GOPe will help him do it.)

So the potus CAN have an impact on gas prices?
I read on this board that he has no impact.
Interesting.

Joe Manchin will say hold my beer.

Joe hasn’t back tracked at all. He was required by court order to issue a permitting plan. His plan calls for both drilling and the option not to issue any leases. There is zero confidence from oil companies to actually bid on a lease in the current environment.

What Oil company in their right mind is going to take the manchurian candidate's offer to drill? Why would they spend millions to set up the operation only to have Bill Gates whisper in a senator's ear and get a permit revoked? Millions lost and Joe can say- sorry "I did that!"

Reverse all the EO's he put into place (counter to Trump's) that caused the price jump.
And that is unlikely to happen. Everything going on is just theater for the press to tell minions he's trying to get evil Big Oil to do something.
There is document somewhere that shows the date of each one of his energy EO's and the price of gas at the time of each. You can steadily watch the climb with each new one.

I hope he actually does it and they give out leases but I have my doubts

I’m tempted to praise this action, but it should never have been necessary.

The permits will come after an environmental impact study. Should only take 4 or 5 years for that.
