I take it you are referring to the Department of Education.

It ackshully existed long prior to 1979. President Eisenhower signed into law the formation of the Department of Health, Welfare, and Education.

All Carter did was split the departments into the separate HHS and Department of Education.

Maybe that caused a consequential change in the federal interaction with education in and of itself, but student loans, the Higher Education Act, and Title IX were all signed into law by Eisenhower, LBJ, and Nixon respectively. So the federal government was already regulating education under the auspices of a cabinet level federal department long before 79.

So you think the UN has the right to magically create countries out of thin air? And dump Jewish refugees into the center of the Arab world? What could possibly go wrong?

Out of thin air? You need to do a little research. It was a 30-year process beginning with the Balfour Declaration in 1917. Too many steps along the way to mention here, but the decision to create a two-state solution (Yes, it was a TWO-STATE solution - Israeli and Arab with the Arabs getting the preferred areas) finally occurred after the entire UN General Assembly voted to partition the land thereby creating separate Jewish and Arab states from the former British Mandate for Palestine.

You're not gonna win this one, bub.

Wow, what an accomplishment for mankind.

He also accomplished putting the country in a "Malaise"...if you were around to remember that time. It wasn't the best of times for the U.S.A.

Iranians took American embassy workers hostages in Tehran.

It was not a happy time, unless you had CD's drawing high interest rates.

The reason Reagan is thought of as being so great is because Carter was so bad.

Jimmy Carter was a bad president but he worked very very hard to redeem himself. He lived a life in true service to others, helping people. Saving people. And history will remember it.

agreed. I didn't like his politics, but a good man. A hell of a lot better than Obama and Biden.

"I think a full investigation would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf,” the former president, who served between 1977 and 1981, said at a panel hosted by the Carter Center in Leesburg, Va.

You are right. Jimmy Carter did a lot of good things; he just had some wrong-headed turn-the-other-cheek ideas about the world. And those ideas were very destructive of America’s place in the world, and they resulted in the ruin of many Americans’ lives. And these negatives far outweighed the positive things Carter did.

Anyway, the best thing he did was screw up so badly that Reagan got elected and flipped the Senate.

He pardon the Vietnam draft dodgers.

I don't see the problem with giving away the Panama Canal. It was theirs anyway. We should always be strong enough to take it back if we need to by military actions. Seems at the time it was too shallow for our major navy ships.

You probably already knew this but couldn't resist the opportunity to spew more anti-Israel propaganda - just like long-time anti-Semite Mr. Jimmy Carter himself.

The man hasn't been dead a week yet. Makes you wonder about your intentions. How does one proclaim to be a zionist without actually proclaiming to be a zionist?

And by himself, he gave away the Panama Canal. As Trump stated lives and treasure were given to build it. I want it back.

Actually…
No.
The Isthmus of Panama was part of Columbia. Columbia didn’t accept our terms for build a canal. Panama accepted our terms if we supported their independence. A little military intervention later and Panama was created with the Canal Zone.

If we were to give back anything, it would be Panama to Columbia.

This. . . This right here. . .

It's the perfect juxtaposition of academia and the real world.

Carter, Obama and Biden 's greatest contributions all in and combined, is that they tested the gracious nature of the American people and their patience.
