So, naturally, he leaks screenshots?

Homeboy failed the leak test.

HARD.

But yes, it was a very interesting read.

One and the same really, but yeah.

I imagine most Trump people will think the administration officials come off as entirely sensible/reasonable/intelligent (and may persuade them to believe this is genuine, honestly).

I give Goldberg props for removing himself from chat once he realized it was legit

Many other journalists would have stayed in

It was confirmed by the spokesman for the National Security Council, Brian Hughes.

They call that “pulling a Rudy” in the administration.

Obviously The Atlantic would love to drive a wedge and with Trump you might have more opportunity than most, but Vance's team going "POTUS may not be considering how this might end up being perceived as at odds with his overarching theme on Europe" seems like exactly what you'd want from someone like Vance.

I'm not sure which is dumber, expecting people to believe that happened or blowing up your future access.

Agree with that. It’s always interesting to me to see what is performative and what is true believer.

This look under the hood seems to confirm Vance really, truly, does not like Europeans.

I'm not sure if that's what I'd take from it, TBH. I read it as "POTUS has a theme of Europeans benefitting off of our backs and this planned action will be another example of our risk meaning their gain, so we should factor in the European freerider consideration here."

Vance is a smart dude, I imagine in a candid conversation he'd blame us for the dynamic as much as he does Europeans (ie, we've facilitated their dependence)

I like how MAGA is assuming this is fake

quote:

"At this time, the message thread that was reported appears to be authentic, and we are reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain," National Security Council Spokesman Brian Hughes said in a statement.

Would appear that there is a very real possibility that this is real

If so there should be consequences

Our national security scares me right now. This won’t be popular but, when you only appoint yes men, which Trump has, you’re inherently choosing from a smaller and theoretically less talented pool of people. Add to that the lack of continuity from replacing experience generals, and the breaking from our long time allies that we’ve shared intelligence with for decades, it could become a bad situation.
