The exodus exposes a critical flaw in policy assumptions: extreme wealth is highly mobile and will respond rationally to financial incentives, even when such moves leave entire municipal budgets in jeopardy.

I've heard it expressed another way.
Capital goes where it's treated the best.

He also expanded on the current tax rates and created new revenue lines that they are/were expecting these millionaires/billionaires to fund.

I am no economist, but took a macro course for shits and giggles. The concept of unrealized expected revenues due to changes in consumer behavior (in this case taxpayers) was probably taught in the first two weeks of class. That was 40 years ago.

Certainly, not every politician can be expected to be an expert economist, but you have to be competent enough to hire one and listen to what they have to say when making tax policy.

Will be interesting to see if most of the rich start supporting republicans so they get to keep their own money. If they did it now democrats would be in big trouble .

The super rich support whomever is in power, and they do that so that they can manipulate the laws.

Economic illiteracy is a feature, not a bug of Leftism.

When you factor in that people have all the world's information at their fingertips in mere seconds basically for free, it becomes pretty clear to me that today's leftists are the dumbest people who have ever existed.

He needs to emphasize that his tax savings not only benefits him, but thousands of others since he can invest the extra money in Amazon updates or even purchases that employ factory workers, etc.
Just think of how many employeed people are involved in $1B in goods and services.

What I think most people fail to realize is that this was their intent all along.

They don’t want capitalism.

Even if you're not an expert economist you should be smart enough to understand human nature. And the fact that a) people do not get wealthy/successful by wasting money and b) that successful people are smarter than the common politician.

I think most of these politicians know the effects of their policy, they just don't care and won't admit it publicly. So they stick to the fake pie-in-the-sky "nothing will change except for the policy" projections (e.g. the pied-a-terre tax in NYC will raise $500,000,000 a year) that excite the useful idiots while simultaneously vilifying those who are targeted with such policies, which also helps get the policies supported and adopted.

Maybe. But Seattle and Washington do not have an income tax. Plus, millionaires and billionaires actually live in NYC. Bezos lived outside Seattle, not sure about the Starbucks guy.

That makes me think Seattle is less reliant on big earners, and more reliant on people staying in and visiting the actual city.

But the fact is big cities across the country still have not adapted to the post Covid world. Some are doing it better then others, but almost all cities are having serious budget problems. Telling rich people "bye" isn't going to help any of them.
