China's relationship with saltwater and concrete is primarily a story of both environmental challenges and sustainability initiatives, including research into using seawater and sea sand for concrete production to reduce reliance on freshwater and river sand.

This also includes a scandal where construction projects in Shenzhen used substandard concrete made with untreated sea sand, which can cause steel reinforcement to corrode.

Just like their brand new super navy. Supposedly they’re having all sorts of problems with the ships.

This will hurt many people's feelings, Chinese people are starting to think about made in the USA, as we thought about China for the last 50 years

Don't fall for the Chinese propaganda. It's a facade.

If you want to find out what China is like for many, just look for their “influencer streets” on YouTube. That is the most dystopian thing I’ve seen, and we have gender ideology over here.

I wouldn't.

I understand your point but lots of bridge builds here in Alabama take forever.

On hwy 82 between Tuscaloosa and Gordo the state was widening the highway from 2 lanes to 4. It got to the Sipsey river bottom, which needed 6 bridges over areas of the river (really a large creek) none of the bridges are longer than 50 yards and entire area is less than a mile. It took over 12 years to build them. 12 long arse years.

They are about the replace the Woolsey Finnel bridge here in Tuscaloosa from 4 lanes (2 each way) to 6. It crosses the Black Warrior river. Cost projected to be $210 MILLION dollars. They plan to build 2 bridges, one on each side each 2 lanes, then after those are opened they will tear down the middle existing bridge and build another 2 lanes so there will be 3 each way plus an emergency. It will be a traffic nightmare.

Why not just build 2 new bridges next to existing and when finished tear down the old bridge?

You expect China to worry about an American Concrete Institute Code in their construction?

Its hard to believe that an improved freight railway system can't be developed to take 30 to 40% of freight trucking off the highway.

I've taken a few trips and amazed at the miles and miles of 18 wheelers lined up entering Chicago and Washington DC just to name a couple of places.

No problem when the majority of your workforce isn’t paid.

My military, Disney and Busch Gardens projects would be a breeze if I could simply take those that didn’t achieve and simply use their bodies to line the ditches for underground cable.

Agreed.

China is not known for quality manufacturing.

Isnt that three gorges dam (largest in the world) moving? They didnt anchor it to bedrock and it has moved some. I also wouldnt want to be downstream when it fails and 40 billion cubic meters gets released.

Just a few of China's new "collapsible" bridges.

AI is so good it's hard to make out what's real and what's not. I'll also say it's quicker to build stuff when they don't care half the workers die.

I guess China figures the low-carbon steel used in rebar doesn't care about salt....

Then why do they post videos showing how poor the quality of Chinese knock-offs of US products then go to great lengths to import the real thing to show off on social media?
