Riot police storm city hall as LA votes on controversial homelessness rule

Basically, the police had to go in to keep protestors against this under control. There are enough people in Los Angeles who want homeless people to be able to live near schools and daycare centers that the police had to show up to protect the city council from them.

quote:

The Los Angeles city council passed a controversial new plan to expand parts of city land where it’s illegal to be homeless, prompting fiery protests that ended in multiple arrests and riot police filling city hall.

Officials voted 11-3 on Tuesday to massively expand so-called 41.18 zones, making it a crime to be living unhoused within 500 feet of schools and daycare centres across the city.

At least two people were arrested in the demonstrations, and city council president Nury Martinez said one individual jumped over a barrier and “charged” at councilmembers.

The Independent has contacted the Los Angeles Police Department for confirmation.

Many housing advocates took issue with the proposal, estimating it would further criminalise homelessness in areas affecting upwards of 20 per cent of the city, CBS News LA reports.

quote:

Inside the council chamber, numerous unhoused people and advocates protested, held signs, and chanted, “we won’t go” and “shame on you,” Knock LA reports.

"Unhoused people"... as if changing the terminology somehow changes the fact that the majority of homeless in LA are drug addicts and/or suffer from some mental disorder.

Police should have let the protesters get to the city council members.

These blue cities will implode....no ignition needed.

Update: These cities are imploding, now.

We could ask the same question about a number of major US cities.

Then we surround the cities and carefully screen those trying to leave.

Worked for me. I've done a 180, completely changed my view on the whole issue.

In 2019, the LAUSD got about $16,000 per student from the state (see below). If that payment is the same (could it be more?) in 2021, losing 27,000 students could cost LAUSD $432,000,000. And the teachers just got a 5% raise.

Replace “protestors” with “homeless” and this scenario will make way more sense.

You should really listen to the lyrics of Ænema by Tool. There has never been a better description of L.A.
