Am I supposed to be heartbroken for the Somalian pirates?

Nope, just thought I had read about it, and this thread jogged my memory.

So somebody finally figures out a way to deal with these pirates that doesn’t use tax money and benefits everyone and we try to lock them up?

This is the problem with America.

We guarantee that you will experience at least two hijacking attempts by pirates or you'll receive an instant $1,000 refund upon arrival in Mombassa.

How can we make that guarantee? We operate at 5 knots just beyond 12 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia , thus in international waters where pirates have no rights whatever. In fact, we make three passes through the area's most treacherous waters to ensure maximum visibility by Somali "mother ships".

We repeat this for five days, making three complete passes past the entire Somali Coast . At night, the boat is fully lit and bottle rockets are shot every five minutes with loud disco music directionally beamed shoreside to attract maximum attention.

that's the source material with countless movies that have followed, but you didn't think the story was a work of fiction did you? this is far from new

Definitely a dangerous career choice. Their options are severely limited. Apparently most used to be fishermen, then the Chinese came in with their big boats and have overharvested. No fish for the small guy = resort to other professions.

Living in Somalia must be a freaking nightmare.

The book is still considered and written as fiction. No, it is not new as many parts of the world had indigenous people hunting others long before it. Elizabeth Báthory was doing it to her servants back in the late 1500's, just tossing out one example.

I think we’ve long known they were freakish busybodies who enjoy sniffing one another’s farts in Davos every year while they come up with ways to control the masses.

But this would be a level of depraved that would leave me thinking “you clowns are indeed THAT detached from basic human decency?”

I reached that point with the pedophile island.

If these lunatics are hunting people for sport it would be the least shocking thing I hear this year.
