As for "pushing" the story
For this narrative to work, Trump would need to have deliberately antagonized the widow. Sans that, this will backfire . . . badly.

I can’t believe you keep blaming this poor bereaved woman, who is a person of color , for taking this phone call. Why do you think you get to tell black women what time of the day they should be taking calls? Like you are some kind of communications secretary for peoples of color....smh.

This Gold Star widow is understandably grief stricken, but I don't blame the President in his attempt to offer condolences. That is well within his duty as Commander-In-Chief
